Effexor - sweetladybaker - 06-20-2009

I have been on Effexor for 4 years now. It was originally prescribed because I was under a great deal of stress. I was sole caregiver for my Mother (alzheimers pt), maintaining a full time job and caring for my household as well. The Effexor worked beautifully for me. I never experienced any side effects that I can recall at that time.
The original reason for the prescription is no longer thankfully. My mother now has a live-in companion/caregiver. However, I have elected to remain on the Effexor for one very important reason, to me anyway. I have been plagued with horrific nightmares for as long as I can remember. I don't have them when I take Effexor. I do dream, vividly, but the dream is forgotten within absolute moments after waking. Getting rid of the nightmares is a biggie to me and I will remain on Effexor for as long as my Dr will allow.

Ambien - Karen - 06-20-2009

I was having problems sleeping due to the onset of menopause. I usually could fall asleep but I had trouble staying asleep. The most I would get is about 4 hours at a stretch. Ambien helped me get between 7 and 8 hours a night. Eventually the symptoms of menopause lessened and I was able to taper off of Ambien. I have it available in case I have problems, but I seem to be over the worst of it.

Avapro - John - 06-20-2009

I initially used 150mg a day with no actual results in lowering BP. Doctor recomended combination with Felodipine 5mg and Metoprolol 50mg, and combination produced results in lowering my BP 115/75 avg. Side effects are tingling in the palm of my hands and excessive tiredness. I will test to discontinue ibersartan, which produces the unwanted side effects.

Spiriva - jenna - 06-20-2009

This stuff is not magic, but it sure seems like it is. I have severe COPD, and the medication really makes it seem like I don't. I would recommend it to anyone. It comes in a little holder with a pill you pierce before you inhale it, so it's always fresh and you can't make a mistake with the dosage.
It does seem to make me a bit hoarse, but I don't care. I'm breathing easy!

Yaz - ekitty13 - 06-20-2009

I really like Yaz! This is actually my first time that I've tried birth control pills, and it's a totally positive experience. At first when I was going the process of picking from all the different brands, Yaz caught my attention because they are suppose to help prevent acne.
It's been working great for me so far. After I've started on Yaz I've noticed some changes in me. Besides my acne cleared up, I stopped having major cramping when I have my period! This is one of the two reasons why I love YAZ. I used to have major cramping when my period came, sometimes it got so bad I needed to stay in bed, but ever since I started taking YAZ, my cramping either went down to a minimal or not have any! I recommended it to all my friends who were interested in start taking birth control pills.

Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo - DCgirl27 - 06-19-2009

I have taken this birth control for a couple years. It has the least amount of side effects of any birth control pill I have tried, and I have tried a few. I did experience about a 5lb weight gain and some breast tenderness for the first few months, but that evened out eventually. It has shortened my period to about 3-4 days and my period is less heavy. I also noticed I have less intense mood swings during the time my period is about to begin. In addition, the packaging makes it easy to remember which pill to take.

Keflex - Springer Lawrence - 06-19-2009

I used this medication to prevent infection/dry socket after wisdom tooth extraction. No side effects.Experienced loss of appetite, but not sure if that was because of this drug or the antibiotics administered after tooth extraction.

Other than that, I experienced no other side effects. My gums did not get infected, so the drug was effective.

Zyrtec was prescribed to me by my allergist in lieu of otc Claritin. It was effective in treating my allergies. However, throughout the duration of my usage I became increasingly depressed. I finally connected this to the medicine and within days of discontinuing use I felt like a weight had been lifted off of me.

Zoloft - Penny - 06-19-2009

Having endured panic attacks for over 12 years, which progressed in intensity and duration to the point of becoming agoraphobic, I mentioned this to my gastroenterologist. He placed me on 25mg of Zoloft. Within 3-4 weeks, depression (which I was not aware I had) lifted. That in itself was amazing and life changing. The panic attacks continued and after 6 weeks, my dosage was increased to 50mg which worked. It gave me my life back. No exaggeration. I'm back to my former self.

I have not been bothered by any side effects other than having more vivid dreams (all pleasant) and consider that a plus.

Zoloft - Kevin - 06-19-2009

When I was entering high school, I had major depression issues that eventually decreased over time. My doctor put me on 2 drugs before this and certainly none were better than Zoloft. It really did help me become more happy and more alive about life. I'm not sure about how the internal processes work, but it certainly help.

The downside to Zoloft is when you go to get off. It was hard on me. It almost seemed as if I was turning to myself before Zoloft -- unhappy and dead about life. It did take a lot of gut power and will for me to get off of it and not revert back. But I did it.

Overall, Zoloft was good for me. It was easy to take and keep with as well.

I have to say this medication was not very pleasant for me. I was one of the few people who expriernced not just vivid dreams , but actual night terrors. If you've never experienced such a thing you are very lucky, picture the worst dream you've ever had but you cant wake up from it

Nasonex - Cher - 06-19-2009

I got a prescription for Nasonex because of constant sinus problems. My sinuses are always stuffed, especially at night. I started using Nasonex but felt no relief, however, I knew it was supposed to take a while before it kicked in.
I soon found myself having trouble sleeping but didn't make any connection to Nasonex. Then I found myself having panic attacks, something I have never experienced. I was frantic to figure out what was going on with me, why the sudden anxiety? Then it hit me! Could it be the Nasonex? I went online and read about it and sure enough anxiety is one of the side affects. I stopped using it (it didn't work anyway) and soon the sleeplessness and anxiety went away.

Vicodin - Debra - 06-19-2009

When I broke my arm, it had splintered into small pieces and hurt far worse than I expected it to, judging from other injuries. The doctor prescribed me Vicodin shortly after my arm had broken, up to about halfway through the healing process when a lot of the splintering had started to heal. This worked far better than the normal round of pain medications I had used for other broken bones, so I would prefer using this if I were injured again. There were very few side effects and it allowed me to keep functioning without feeling sick or tired.

Aricept - SRR - 06-19-2009

When my brother-in-law had to be placed in the dementia unit of an assisted care facility, we didn’t know how we were going to manage. We lived too far away to be there on a daily or even weekly basis. Fortunately he had a kind friend who spent countless hours playing memory games with him (When was your father’s birthday? What are your nieces’ names?) and went with him to the doctor.

One of the medications the doctor prescribed was Aricept. From the time he began taking it, we noticed little or no change in his condition. Perhaps his mind slowed down a bit, but we really didn’t see it, which to our way of thinking was a minor miracle. As near as we could tell, he suffered no side effects. Until he died three years later of an unrelated cause he remained relatively stable. The doctor was surprised and pleased at how slowly his condition was deteriorating, and informed us that if it weren’t for the Aricept (and the memory games) we would not have been so lucky.

I don’t know if this drug would be as effective for someone else. But when it works, it can be an absolute blessing.

Darvocet - Dahc - 06-19-2009

I went to see my doctor because I was having pain in my lower back due to a ruptured disc. The doctor gave me a prescription for Darvocet for the pain. I don't know if it was not a strong enough dosage or what but it did absolutely nothing for me. The pain in my back was just as intense while taking the Darvocet as it was without it. I did not have any side effects, because for me it didn't work anyway.

Aciphex - Janice - 06-19-2009

I was placed on Aciphex after I could not control my reflux with over the counter medication. I used it for 3 straight months with a significant effect. I no longer had heart burn. It was great. When I did a trial off of Aciphex, it returned. I again tried to use over the counter medication but it did not work. I returned to the trusted Aciphex and again, I had great results. One of the biggest benefits that I see of this drug is that it can be taken at any time of the day. Most other medications in this class have to be taken a certain amount of time before eating. Aciphex is not like that. I highly recommend it.

Zyrtec - PMD43614 - 06-19-2009

I had been on Claritin-D for approximately 5 years and had noticed that my allergies were worsening. I decided to try Zyrtec. Regrettably, I could not tolerate it. After one week, I decided to discontinue its use as I experienced an intolerable level of drowsiness and dry mouth. My allergy symptoms, however, did decrease.

Ciproflaxacin - PMD43614 - 06-19-2009

During an acute bout of severe food poisoning, this was prescribed for me. It worked quickly and very effectively. Took first dose in the morning and felt nearly one-hundred percent better by the afternoon. Immediately noticed that nausea and loose stools came to a very quick end. Ability to tolerate liquids increased throughout the day. By nightfall, wanted to eat regular meal but was cautioned to remain on bland diet for a week. Would recommend this prescription drug for anyone experiencing severe, acute food poisioning.

Flexeril - Chad - 06-19-2009

I have a herniated disc in my back which is causing muscle cramping and spasms in my left leg. My doctor prescribed me the Flexeril to help relax the muscles and let me get some rest. At first I thought the dosage would be to low for me, but to my surprise after taking a couple doses it worked well. The only problem I had with it was it made me really constipated, which according to my doctor is not a known side effect of Flexeril, but sure enough once I stopped taking it everything went back to regular.

Effexor - WildernessPast - 06-19-2009

Effexor XR tends to work well for reduction of anxiety and stabilization of mood. However, it has a propensity, especially with Bipolar individuals to push them towards mania, rather than a moderate level of calm homeostasis. This is of significant concern because the ongoing elevated mood can mask or create other challenges for the individual. For example, an individual with active Epstein Bar may not be as readily aware of the fatigue they are experiencing, or if they are, they may not be able to rest sufficiently to engage in active recovery.
Another concern with Effexor XR is the difficulty in coming off of this medication. One has to be slowly titrated off of this medication to avoid sharp changes in mood, and potential increase in suicidal ideation. This is defiantly a medication that should be cautiously used with Bipolar populations.

Accutane - Reese - 06-19-2009

I was started at 10 mg daily for acne to see if any side effects would show at that dose. When none were apparent the dosage was increased to 20 mg daily.
Although I saw great results with my clearing skin, I also began to have serious side effects. Most people experience dry skin meanwhile I had become depressed and suicidal. I had to discontinue use. It is likely that the side effects were a result of other medication interfering or that for my weight 20 mg might have been too much. Always let your doctors know everything you are taking and immediately make them aware of any side effects.
I will be re-starting Accutane in a month but this time I will be taking it every other day or less.

Zyrtec - heather - 06-19-2009

Zyrtec is the only allergy medication that I have taken that is able to help all of my allergy symptoms. Typically when my allergies begin to bother me my nose will run, my eye will get extremely dry and my throat itches. Zyrtec helps me with all these symptoms however i felt extremely drowsy after taking them.
