After having minor surgery, I was prescribed darvoset for pain. Luckily I was not in much pain, but took the pills just in case. They did make me a little dizzy but did help the little pain that I did have. I took a pill before bed for 2 nights, and had the weirdest dreams ever. I didn't sleep particularly well either. A friend mentioned that darvoset should be taken with food or milk, which was not written on the label. This may explain the dizziness and strange dreams.

About 6 months later, I fell and injured my knee and hip. I took a few left over pills and they did absolutely nothing to help the pain. Many of my friends swear by darvoset, but it really hasn't worked for me.

I started taking Darvocet for my chronic backpain when I was first being treated for it 4 years ago. It was the first thing my doctor tried me on for pain. I had never really taken many pain relievers before this. So, I started taking them as prescribed every four to six hours as needed. After about a week and a half, my stomch started getting extremely upset. I was getting constipated, and I could barely ever have a bowel movement. As for the pain relief aspect, it didn't even touch the pain I was experiencing. I was soooo disappointed. Of course, because I was so young my Dr. wouldn't start me on anything stronger. He just let me agonize in pain. Needless to say I stopped taking the Darvocet and stopped seeing that Dr. as well.

This was a step-down drug for me, following a crash which included broken & severely bruised bones. After several weeks on stronger medicine, my doctor gave me this to both control the pain and allow me to be more clear-headed. It worked on both accounts. The only side effect I noticed was some constipation, which was rectified by drinking more water & eating more fiber.

I have been prescribed Darvocet several times. The first time was after an automobile accident in which I suffered multiple injuries. While the injuries did not require surgery, I had three injured vertebrates, a cracked knee cap, a head injury, among other more minor ones. I found Darvocet to be somewhat pain-relieving although not as strong as I expected. The next time I was prescribe Darvocet was after severe third-degree burns to my right hand. I took the medication several months before "Physical Therapy" in which burned skin had to be debrided every 24 hours for new Silvadene burn medication to be administered. There was little relief, or if there would have been more pain without the Darvocet, I would not have wanted to experience it. So, I assume that the medication made the treatment bearable. I did not experience any negative side-effects, and I had no problems with discontinuing taking it.

I took Darvocet for pain after abdominal surgery. I was given another medication at first, but it was nauseating and, frankly, constipating. This was much better. It took care of the pain, but I did not have that "drugged up" feeling. I felt more like myself, but with less pain.
It is not perfect. I have heard that it is addicting, but I had no trouble when I stopped taking it.

I went to see my doctor because I was having pain in my lower back due to a ruptured disc. The doctor gave me a prescription for Darvocet for the pain. I don't know if it was not a strong enough dosage or what but it did absolutely nothing for me. The pain in my back was just as intense while taking the Darvocet as it was without it. I did not have any side effects, because for me it didn't work anyway.

My doctor put me on this to help with pain I've been experiencing with rupturing ovarian cysts. It was very effective for treating the pain. The only thing I don't really like about it, is that it is more sedative than other pain medications I've been prescribed before. Which is great for when you take it before bed, but not when you're in pain during the day and need it.

Also, while I've heard that it's supposed to be easier on the stomach, for me it tends to make me more nauseous than other pain medications.

Overall I would say that this is a great alternative to hydrocodone, as it doesn't seem as habit forming.

Darvocet is an excellent pain-relieving medication for me. I used it after a minor surgery that caused me huge amounts of pain and the Darvocet removed the pain quickly. Other than being a bit sleepy near the end of the day, I was able to function effectively using this drug. My speech wasn't slurred and I didn't feel foggy at all.
