Namenda - Karen - 06-03-2009

The Namenda drug was prescribed to my mother-in-law for alzheimers (she is 79 and 190 lbs). Since the disease affects different people in different ways, it is very difficult to really know if this drug is doing what it is supposed to do. Even though the drug is taken on a consistent and timely basis, there are some days it seems that a drug was never taken. Forgetfulness, disorientation, and lack of interest are most common issues noted.

I understand that the drug is to "slow" the process, but how do we know if this is the case?

Diflucan - Amber - 06-03-2009

I have found that this medication is the absolute best for yeast infections. Ive tried almost everything on the market and have never found something that works so well. Ive been taking this since I was about 16 years old, and have never found a need to change. You can feel results by the end of the day which i think is great. Not to mention, a pill is so much easier than messy creams and applicators.

Wellbutrin - wwhisnant - 06-03-2009

Bupropion (Wellbutrin) treats depression. With it, I am less lethargic. Also, for me it also helps with anxiety. I no longer feel the immediate need to have everything my way. Now I am a calm, nice person instead of the harried, combative, mean person from before. I wish I had started taking this medication decades ago. If I had, I would have a happier husband and children, and a more stable career. Side effects I've noticed are dry mouth, nose, and eyes. Also, I've noticed that I don't feel emotions as intensely as before. This may have led to my short term memory problems. I am more forgetful and often can't remember what I've already said during a conversation. Overall, the side effects are easily coped with because the benefits of this medication greatly outweigh any inconvenient side effects.

Vicodin - Scott - 06-03-2009

When I had to have my wisdom teeth removed surgically, I was prescribed Vicodin for the pain. It was a quite painful procedure in which four of my teeth were extracted. I was given a three weeks prescription for the drug and was told to take about two a day.

It worked very well for its intended purpose, which was to stop the pain. When I did not take them, there was a substantial difference in the amount of pain. Vicodin definitely does what it is intended to do. As far as side-effects, it did cause a slight disorientation and slight drowsiness. It is definitely not recommended to operate machinery of any sort while on this drug. For its purpose, it does a great job.

Effexor - nasudo - 06-03-2009

I have been treated for depression for about 25 years now, and will likely have to take meds the rest of my life. From time to time something that was working well may cease to work for me and the doctor will experiment with something else, until they get me back on track.

For one horrid month I was put on effexor, and it was the very worst antidepressant I was ever on. I've been on quite a few - I could name at least 6 or so just off the top of my head and I'm sure there's more, but I'll never forget effexor.

I had very strange, horrifying psychotic dreams while I was on effexor. I would wake up in terror with my heart racing. I would not want to go back to sleep for fear the dreams would return. It was absolutely awful and when I went back to the doctor I told her I never ever wanted to take that stuff again.

To this day I cringe whenever I hear someone say they're taking effexor. I know it doesn't effect everyone the way it did me, but I've never had a med bother me the way that one did, and I want others to be aware that effexor can have that kind of side effect and if it does, there are OTHER CHOICES out there - don't stay with it!

Lexapro - Steven - 06-03-2009

I was prescribed Lexapro for depression and anxiety by my psychiatrist after reporting intolerable levels of stress at work combined with poor motivation. After using it for a month I began to feel more in control and less hopeless than before, being able to calm myself down better than I was before.

It helped me a great deal and I would consider it a good drug for treating depression and anxiety.

Chantix - Shannon - 06-03-2009

This has been a great drug to quit smoking. I have smoked for many years and on the 8th day of taking Chantix, I was able to quit. The side effects have been minor. The first week, I had a few headaches and very vivid dreams. I have heard this makes people suicidal, but I have not felt that way yet. It is a life changing drug!

Lyrica - tgirl26x - 06-03-2009

I have fibromyaglia, chronic pain and nerve damage from a car wreck 15 yrs ago. I spent years dealing with the "shocks" in my legs and numbness in my hands due to extreme sensitivity to temperature changes.

Lyrica has been great for me! I no longer have the "shocks" in my legs and the sensitivity to temperature changes has been greatly reduced. I suggest this medicine for anyone who has these issues. It took a little time to get the dosage right but it was worth it.

The only disadvantage is when I forget to fill the prescription in time. If I go off of Lyrica for a few days, it gives me insomnia, but that is easily fix by fill the prescription and getting back on track the very first night.

Prilosec - Frederick - 06-03-2009

I was rushed to the hospital three years ago with a bleeding ulcer. Basically I lost half my blood. After being given blood, I was prescribed prevacid, which I could not afford, so the doctor gave me a 90 day script for Prilosec.

I had to take some antibiotics for the first week but I kept using the Prilosec daily for about 90 days. My ulcer completely healed. I have had no stomach issues since then.

As far as side-effects, I must warn you, the last few days I was taking Prilosec, I broke out in hives. They were all over my arms and back, but they quickly went away. And I was at the end of my supply anyway. I highly recommend Prilosec for those who may have an ulcer. It was a life saver for me.

Budeprion - Michael - 06-03-2009

I have been using Budeprion to treat anxiety disorder. There have been no side effects for me, which has been great. It does not work as effectively as SSRI's did for me, however their side effects (weight gain / sexual side effects) made me switch to Budeprion. I have been taking it for 6 months and have been doing well.

Flonase - Mary Lichtenwalter - 06-03-2009

My doctor has intermittently had me on Flonase while I have suffered for my chronic Sinusitis. The spray is very convenient and travels easily with me when I have had to go out of town.

While this product alone has never been able to resolve my sinus problems, it has helped with the chronic stuffiness that I seem to endure. My doctor has put me on it from anywhere to 2 weeks to a couple of months at a stretch. The product, while not obvious, does produce some benefits. You definitely know when you have stopped using the product because within 24 hours, you notice your nostrils filling again, and you also notice pressure behind your eyes.

My doctor usually uses this in conjunction with antibiotics and a decongestant. Sometimes he will have me use a sinus pot to rinse out my nose at the other end of the day.

The only side effect that I seemed to notice when I have used this product is it seems to dry out my nostrils. I can't say I have noticed any other side effects

ProAir HFA - Charissa - 06-03-2009

I was diagnosed with asthma at 26 and prescribed the ProAir AFA inhaler. I use it before aerobic activity, and when I have a sudden attack. I was afraid that use would become habitual, but rather my use has dropped off because now I know what it is like to consistently breathe well, I can identify when I need medication. I have experienced no side effects other than the weird taste of the spray which seems to linger in my mouth.

Yaz - Ry - 06-02-2009

I love this birth control! I've been on others, but this one has been has had the most obvious positive side-effects. It's just as easy to take as any other daily birth control, one pill a day. Sometimes I forget, but you can just take two pills the next day. There are only 4 placebo pills, which are supposed to make your periods shorter, but I didn't notice much of a difference in the length. I did notice that my periods were significantly lighter.
However, I did notice a huge different with my skin. I used to break out on my chest during warm-weather months, and I haven't since the month after I started Yaz!
As for the purpose of this pill, it has worked in the sense that I have not gotten pregnant. No complaints here! I would recommend this pill to my girlfriends.

Benzaclin - BB - 06-02-2009

The product works very well. It truly helps in limiting future break outs as well eliminating current acne. It works far better than any other product I have used in the past. Benzeclin can however dry out the face and should be paired with a moisturizer. Also, the product is more effective if paired with another topical gel and using one at night and one in the morning. You should not over-do it, you do not need to apply too much of the gel in order to see change, the gel is very strong and effective.

Adderall - Clara - 06-02-2009

I was diagnosed with Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), and my doctor prescribed Adderall. While on Adderall, I felt very concentrated and focused on my work. However, after it wore off, usually about 3-4 hours, I would feel very jumpy and anxious. When I switched to an extended release form of the Adderall, the results were much better.
I did not experience any adverse side effects other than being more thirsty than usual. Adderall is very effective and has helped my ADD considerably since I have been on it.

Effexor - GenesisOne - 06-02-2009

Effexor is an excellent antidepressant medication that provided my life with much needed light and hope. This medication has helped to rescue me from darkness and make it possible for me to associate relatively normally with other people. Without Effexor, I think that I would have likely retreated to my room and rarely emerged from it. Now, I did experience some side effects while taking this medication, including sleepiness and sweating. The sleepiness could be particularly difficult to cope with because there were some days where I could not get myself out of bed at all and there were other times when I was out the house and I found myself overcome with sleepiness, but luckily I was with someone each time. Overall, the side effects, in my opinion, are bearable as long as you have family or friends around you in the hours after the medication is taken. This medication can help you emerge from a world that looks like it has been permanently covered with dark clouds that are constantly swallowing up all the warmth from the people and the ground.

Zithromax - halfapint - 06-02-2009

My two year old had a nasty ear infection that would not go away. He had an allergic reaction to the penicillin that he was prescribed weeks earlier so his doctor decided to see if azithromycin would work. First of all, my baby liked the taste so it was easy for me to get him to take it. He had to take it twice a day (every twelve hours). After the first two days of my baby taking it, I knew it was working because he no longer had a fever. My baby's urine also had the smell of the medicine. I hoped and prayed that my baby would not get an allergic reaction to the medicine and he did not. At the fifth day, my baby finished the medicine and I took him to a follow up visit with his doctor. The doctor checked my baby's ears and said that he no longer had an infection. I was pleased because the treatment with this medicine was faster than the normal ten day treatment. I will request this medicine again if my baby develops another ear infection.

Maxzide - Leamm - 06-02-2009

Without hydrochlorothiazide I have high blood pressure. One pill a day keeps my blood pressure at 180/20 or lower. Perfect. When I first began taking this medication, I experienced the need to urinate frequently within the first 5 hours of taking the medication. It is recommended that you do not take at night or you may have to get up often. As time as gone on though, I seem to have adjusted and don't find the need to urinate frequently. Otherwise I have had no problems with the medication. I take a potassium supplement because the medication apparently leaches potassium from one's system.

Although there are no apparent symptoms of high blood pressure, I would rather treat it with hydrochlorothiazide and no that my blood pressure is normal.

Flonase - Sammy - 06-02-2009

I've used Flonase on an as needed basis for years. It opens my sinuses nicely when I'm feeling extra-congested from seasonal allergies. It's considered an off-label usage scenario since it's not supposed to work without a rampup period. I only found that to be the case when I first started using it years ago.

Abilify - Abilify - 06-02-2009

In the beginning, the abilify actually made a difference. It was added to my traditional Effexor medication that I took daily. I started seeing results in about a week. I felt more comfortable around people and actually saw a light at the end of the tunnel. Unfortunately, after aboug 3 weeks the effects war off. It was the first time in years I felt really good. Back to the doctor once again!.

Yaz - Tammy - 06-02-2009

I took Yaz before getting married and continued to take it for about a year and a half. The results? What can I say? I didn't get pregnant!

Positives:
- Easy to take. Just one pill per day.
- Lighter periods. Only lasted a couple days and flow was light.
- Less acne. I think my acne was lessened. But that could be all in my head.

Negatives:
- Adjustment period. I had a month or two of crankiness as my body adjusted to the new hormones.
- Not super-easy. I often forgot to take it and had to double up the following day.
- Cost. Even with my insurance, it was $45 a month.

One last note. I stopped taking it and got pregnant 2 months later. So it didn't mess with my long term ability to get pregnant! I'd recommend Yaz to my friends.
