My OB/GYN NP prescribed a 6-month course of oral fluconazole to treat a persistent yeast infection. She prescribed 1 pill every other day for a week, then once weekly for the next 3 weeks, and then once monthly for the following 5 months. After the initial multi-dose monthly regimen, the infection cleared. It flared up during the second & third months, but subsided quickly after the single monthly doses. I have found that this medication is the absolute best for yeast infections. Ive tried almost everything on the market and have never found something that works so well. Ive been taking this since I was about 16 years old, and have never found a need to change. You can feel results by the end of the day which i think is great. Not to mention, a pill is so much easier than messy creams and applicators.
