Once I got past the initial side effects of loose stools, the biggest challenge has been to remember to take my pill two times a day. I only now get loose stools if I eat too much carbohydrate. I was given this drug because my blood sugars are on the rise, but not high enough to be diagnosed as a Type II Diabetic. My sugars have stabilized with the use of the drug. An added side effect that is a plus is that my monthly period has become as regular as clockwork and I can predict to the day when it will happen which makes life a lot easier. I have also noticed that it is easier for me to loose weight when I take this medication and have lost 12 pounds since starting to take this drug.

I have been on this medication for over a year now and I love it. It has helped control my glucose levels tremendously as I am a type 2 diabetic. I was using the regular Met 500 prior to taking ER. The regular dosage caused extreme intestinal problems and had to be discontinued. I have since been very pleased with the Met ER 500 and hope to kick my type 2 diabetes for good!

I take this medication for Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) which makes my insulin levels high -- it has greatly increased my insulin levels, so it's doing it's job. However, the side effects are not fun.

Metformin causes terrible diarrhea...and it's not something that goes away with time. I've had it consistently since I started the medication.

However, if you have a serious medical condition and metformin is the answer, then diarrhea is a small price to pay in my eyes. I would recommend it to anyone with PCOS or any other insulin deficiency in which your doctor also recommends Metformin.

There are a few good points about this medication. The first is that it works well. Unfortunately, the dosage does have to be increased regularly. The second is that it does allow you to lose excess weight. There are is one problem that I have noted while taking this medication. The medication causes diarrhea and cramping. These symptoms are relieved by taking a digestive enzyme supplement. If this remedy does not work, talk to your doctor.

This was the first medication I was prescribed when I was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes and I have to say it was great at first. I say great at first because it kept my blood sugars in check and I was visibly losing weight. What was unfortunate is that the dosage needed to be continually increased to the point where I am now taking it twice a day along with two other oral medications and insulin. I would recommend this for the treatment of Type II Diabetes along with strict adherence to your Doctor's recommendations for diet and exercise. So far I have not had any problems taking this medication, it plainly is working as it should towards keeping my blood sugars at a normal level.

The good news about this medication is that it did what it was supposed to. My blood sugars stabilized and my type II diabetes was deemed "under control." Unfortunately, that wasn't enough to make me want to keep taking it. This medicine made me extremely nauseous. In the mornings, even the smell of food made me violently sick to my stomach. This meant that I couldn't eat breakfast, thus, throwing my blood sugars off. I was dizzy, I was sick, I was desperately unhappy becasue it made me feel so terrible. If your doctor recommends this medicine, see how well you tolerate it. If you feel sick, tell your docotor. there are other options available that don't make you sick.
