Seroquel - Casey - 06-07-2009

I was given Seroquel for a Bipolar II disorder and OCD. My doctor started me on 25mg and worked me up to 400mg. I did not like this medication at all. It made me groggy, and I felt like I no longer had my own thoughts in my head. I had a lot of nightmares, and the only thing it did to cure my manic feelings was completely zonk me out. I felt like a complete zombie. My doctor tried lowering the dosage, but this didn't help at all. I would never take this drug again.

Cymbalta - Lisa - 06-07-2009

I had been battling with minor depression symptoms for many years. A few years ago I decided all the crying for no apparent reason and the laziness needed to change. I talked to my doctor and asked her to prescribe something to make me feel normal again.

I cannot tell you the difference Cymbalta has made in my life. I no longer cry at the drop of a hat, mood swings are nonexistent, and I no longer make excuses to stay home instead of going out with friends or family. As a matter of fact, many family members and friends have commented on how much happier I seem and that they had been worried about me.

I did experience a little dizziness when first starting to take Cymbalta. Luckily it ceased after the first week.

I highly recommend Cymbalta for treating depression. It has literally changed my life for the better.

Darvocet - Nyte - 06-07-2009

My doctor put me on this to help with pain I've been experiencing with rupturing ovarian cysts. It was very effective for treating the pain. The only thing I don't really like about it, is that it is more sedative than other pain medications I've been prescribed before. Which is great for when you take it before bed, but not when you're in pain during the day and need it.

Also, while I've heard that it's supposed to be easier on the stomach, for me it tends to make me more nauseous than other pain medications.

Overall I would say that this is a great alternative to hydrocodone, as it doesn't seem as habit forming.

Effexor - Kelly - 06-07-2009

I have been taking Effexor XR (150mgs) since 2003 for social phobia. I hesitated to put a rating on it, because there have been good and bad effects from this drug. I will start with the good.

Effexor XR changed my life in a good way. Coupled with therapy, the use of Effexor XR has made me able to talk to people, whereas before I was too shy to do so. Everyday social situations were too much for me before I began taking Effexor XR. I was scared at parties and at work to talk to people. Even people I knew, I was afraid that they were constantly negatively judging me. I was even afraid to use the telephone or to use public restrooms for fear of others judging me. Now that I've been on Effexor XR, all of that has changed for the better. I am able to go about daily life without looking over my shoulder to see who is watching me.

The reason I am unable to give Effexor XR a high rating is because I worry about its side effects. It has a short half-life and if I don't remember to take the medication at the right time, the side effects make themselves known quickly. The side effects that I personally have experienced are a tingling in my skin (this is the first side effect I notice) and agitation over little things; anything could set off my temper. If I forget to take it for longer periods of time, perhaps two or three days, I start to feel what people refer to as brain zaps, which is hard to explain, but feels as though the world bounces around me or as if my brain is banging against my skull. My advice to anyone thinking of taking Effexor XR: do your research and see if another alternative wouldn't work better before you get on this drug, because it's very hard to get off of.

Effexor - Rachel - 06-07-2009

I was on Effexor for about a year for depression, and had to stop taking it because of the cost. My dose eventually reached 75mg of the Extended Release Capsule. It worked wonders for me, and changed my whole perspective. While other medications had worked, this was top notch. I was stable, and didn't have that cloudy, overcast feeling to my mood. I could tell how effective it was, because if I forgot one dose, the drastic change in mood I experienced was intense. The only downside is when I stopped taking the medication. The withdraw symptoms are some of the worst I've ever had. I would wake up throughout the night drenched in sweat, but chilled. I was a totally different person, always flying off the handle. I was also on Trazodone, for sleeping. Lately I've also been taking Depokote, a mood stabalizer. I did not have any adverse side effects. Effexor worked very well for me, and I will be starting back up on the generic as soon as possible.

Darvocet - Jiggs - 06-07-2009

Darvocet is an excellent pain-relieving medication for me. I used it after a minor surgery that caused me huge amounts of pain and the Darvocet removed the pain quickly. Other than being a bit sleepy near the end of the day, I was able to function effectively using this drug. My speech wasn't slurred and I didn't feel foggy at all.

Synthroid - Kimmy - 06-07-2009

During my second term of college I began feeling really run down all the time. I was so tired I didn't want to hang out with my friends, and even walking to class seemed like too much effort. To make matters worse, my weight increased and my hair and nails were brittle and breaking easily. Not feeling or looking like myself any more got me to seek medical treatment.
My doctor diagnosed me with a hypo active thyroid and Hashimoto's thyroiditis. I began taking Synthroid right away, and within a couple months the difference was significant. Now I've been on it for years, and I can't imagine life without it. I'm the old me again- I have energy and feel great!

This works well for my allergies. I have suffered from allergies most of my life and some seasons are worse than others. With Allegra, I am able to finally see! I used to get watery eyes so much before. I haven't really noticed any bad side effects just positive ones. I will definately continue taking this medication.

Seroquel - Thaler - 06-07-2009

I was started on Seroquel around 1998. At that time I was suffering from depression with psychotic features. At first the drug made me sleepy; however, after a few months that side-effect went away. I found that I could take the medication at night or in the morning and never felt drowsy. I did gain a lot of weight while on this medication, but have started a diet and exercise program, which is helping.

Before Seroquel I was on SSDI. Now I am working full-time and going to school. I was accepted into a PHD program and hope to finish in about 3 more years.

It feels good to have my life back on trak. Seroquel made that happen.

Percocet 10/650 - surveyor - 06-07-2009

I used this medication after undergoing oral surgery to remove all wisdom teeth. The medication was very effective in removing the pain. I was unable to have a solid sleep and was extremely thirsty when on this medication. I also lost my appetite and experienced some nausea. In order to continue with the medication to suppress the pain, I had to cut the pills in half to limit the side-effects.

Yaz - Sam - 06-06-2009

I have been using Yaz for the last year without an incident. It was recommended to me by a close friend who had started taking birth control before me. Before I started taking Yaz I had horrible cramping but now cramps are virtually non-existent and the flow of my period is much lighter and easier to cope with. I had no negative side effects at all taking Yaz. I don't think I will ever change my prescription as long as I'm still taking birth control. Like my friend did to me I would recommend Yaz to all ladies having issues with their birth controls or for women who are just starting.

Diflucan - AJK - 06-06-2009

It is no exaggeration to say Diflucan is a "wonder drug"! Side-effect free this drug works instantly clearing up unpleasant yeast infections within a day or so. Any woman who suffers from frequent urinary tract infections has probably experienced the common yeast infection that often follows a round of antibiotics. I always make sure to have my gynecologist call in a prescription for Diflucan any time I am on antibiotics.

Effexor XR - Muchbetter - 06-06-2009

I took Effexor for at least 2 years to help treat depression and anxiety coupled with psychotherapy. I had already taken 3 other SSRI drugs that seemed to work for awhile but did not seem to continue their effectiveness over the long term. The same was true for Effexor.
I must also report that the side effects were not desirable. Night sweats and ringing in the ears that sometimes had a strobe effect that also caused strobing in my brain. (That is the best way I know how to describe this weird occurrence that reoccurred for months after I weaned off all medications.) The side effects seemed to be a ceiling I could not break through to continue to get better.
I do much better now through the healing of Jesus Christ and have to give God the credit and glory

Advair Diskus - Jolie du Pre - 06-06-2009

I have been an Advair user for at least five years. Basically, with me, Advair is a drug I need to remain on indefinitely. I can stop using Advair - I'll be okay for about two years - and then I'll end up in the hospital. So, I NEED Advair. Before a drug like Advair, asthma sufferings were stuck with inhalers that were just temporary relief sources. Advair is different. I take one puff a day (down from two) and I can breathe normally all the time - including when I run, since I am a runner. Advair has changed my life. I no longer fear that I will have an asthma attack. I no longer have to carry inhalers with me. The only side effect of Advair is that you must make sure you rinse out your mouth and brush your teeth after every puff.

Singulair - Steph - 06-06-2009

Singulair is a non-steroidal allergy medication, one of the reasons I take it. Most prescription asthma and allergy medicines usually contain steroids which make them risky for long term use.

I have asthma and suffer from seasonal allergies and have been taking Singulair for years. Without it I'd need to use my inhaler much more often. This medicine works when taken daily long-term, or seasonally as needed. I'm definitely breathing easier taking this medication.

Percocet - Kristina - 06-06-2009

When I had a lump removed from my breast, the doctor prescribed Percocet for the pain. It was only an hour long operation, but the pain was horrible when I woke up after the operation. First they gave me morphine which completely took the pain away.
When I arrived at home and the pain returned, I took 1 Percocet. After a few minutes I started feeling dizzy. I couldn't even walk to the bathroom. The medication was so strong that it made me feel really strange. I don't take any prescription drugs on a normal basis, so it may have affected me more than usual, but I didn't take any more after that.

Effexor - frank650 - 06-06-2009

I was on Effexor for about 1 year primarily for anxiety/stress. The side efects far outweighed any benefit I received. First of all, when getting on the medication, I went through 2 weeks of agonizing stomach issues - which unfortunately was timed with a family vacation. Once on it, I was always sweating, and I mean always.

My cholesterol and blood pressure also spiked while on it. I don't know if there is a conection, but now that I am off of it, they remain my primary health issues. When weaning myself off the drug, I experienced the same awful electrical impulses through my body tha everyone reports, although not as severe as most. It took about 2 weeks for them to stop completely.

Now that I am off it, I can't believe my doctor ever prescribed it. It's like using an elephant gun on a termite. I do not recommend the drug to anyone, unless you have serious mental health issues that need to be addressed.

Vicodin - DJ - 06-06-2009

I had a compound fractures in my right arm . I was prescribed vicodin for the pain for about a month. It did work very well for that purpose . It did no make me drowsy, instead i was very energized.
The down side is when I stopped taking it I felt like absolute crap. I've taken this medication in the past for shorter periods of time for minor injuries but never for this long. I think that my body had become addicted to it and the withdrawls were almost as bad as the pain .
So my review is... it's great for short term use, but horrible if taken for any length of time.

Paxil - AnitaJay - 06-06-2009

Paxil was one of several antidepressant drugs prescribed for me over a period of ten years. I had been on Wellbutrin before the Paxil, and since coming off Paxil I have been taking Zoloft (sertraline).

Paxil "took the edges off" my life - I didn't experience the "lows" I had tolerated before, where I felt like I was *never* in a good mood. At the same time, however, Paxil took away the occasional "highs" I had experienced in the past. Even my friends noticed the difference. Gone was the righteous indignation I used to spout off about conditions at work - so many thought I just didn't care anymore. My take, though, was that I wasn't bothered by what I now considered the "small stuff." I attribute the change in my attitude to the Paxil.

My only complaint about Paxil - and the reason for my switching to Zoloft - was the sexual side effect of a NOTICEABLE decrease in my libido. I didn't mind feeling like "whatever" where it came to my work...but I DID mind feeling like "whatever" when it came to whether I wanted to have sex or not. I mentioned this change to my doc and she told me Paxil could affect people in this way, and offered to try me on Zoloft. I changed, and I'm not affected in that way by the Zoloft and I've continued with it.

I appreciated Paxil's effects and how it worked, but this particular side effect was something I didn't want to live with.

Yasmin - Lila - 06-06-2009

Yasmin was the first birth control pill I used. I was recommended and prescribed this by my dermatologist because I wanted to control my acne. She said she had patients who had received positive results with it, so she recommended it to me. I learned later that many doctors are encouraged to sell Yasmin because of their profit margins, not because it is medically better for a patient. For me, Yasmin did help with the acne. It helped clear my skin, and regulate my periods. But it made things difficult with weight. I gained a lot of weight on it (about 20 pounds), and I'm still trying to lose it. Also, it was rather expensive for me to use Yasmin. It cost more than other brands on my insurance, and I eventually switched off of this because of the weight gain and cost. Yasmin might be good for some other people, but it wasn't the right birth control for me.

Flonase - Jonathan - 06-06-2009

This medication is absolutely fantastic. I have both seasonal and animal allergies that can leave me sneezing and dripping. Let's face it, pseudophedrine isn't a long-term solution and can affect heart rate, phenylephrine is ineffective by the oral route, and OTC nasal sprays are either ineffective or can have a rebound effect worse than the original symptoms.

Aside from a sickly sweet taste in the back of my mouth immediately after application, I have never had any side effects from Flonase. After about 24 hours of wind-up, the medication stops my snuffly nose. It takes away congestion, too. Everything dries up. I feel normal. I'm ready to face my parents' cats or to take a jog outside.
