Vicodin - Karen - 06-12-2009

After having had a number of surgeries for various health issues, I found that my painkiller of choice is Vicodan. During my last surgery (a total knee replacement), I was given several pain killers to begin with, the first making me worse and really out of it mentally, and the second did nothing to relieve my pain. Finally I convinced the doctor that I was aware of Vicodan and knew how to control my use of it and how to slowly wean myself off of it as the pain lessened.

Topamax - Jon B - 06-12-2009

I was on this medication for about eight months. It was prescribed to me to treat my migraine headaches. It was mildly successful at preventing migraines, although I still had them occasionally while on the medication. I stopped using this medication because I was beginning to have noticeable side effects. I had a significant loss in appetite, and lost just over thirty pounds while on this medication. I also felt that the medicine was beginning to have a negative effect on my short term memory. Overall this was a mildly successful medication, but for me personally it was not worth the side effects.

Prozac - M - 06-12-2009

I never thought I could be this happy. I take Prozac every day and I feel like a whole new person. No more panic attacks, no more being depressed, no more suicide attempts. No more no. It's all yes.

My experience with prozac has been amazing. I have no side effects and amazing benefits. I was scared due to people telling me it could increase suicidal thoughts but for me it has done just the opposite. I have none. NONE. Please, if you feel suicidal, depressed, anything.. Try prozac before you give up. It's worth it.

Singulair - ike - 06-11-2009

Let me just say that singulair has helped me significantly. I have asthma and have tried everything to help. Once a day singulair keeps my asthma under control and off my mind. Having asthma is a huge burdon and not having to worry about it is great. Besides being a little expensive for me i cant think of any negatives for it. I have never had any side effects from it and it gives me hope that maybe there on their way to a permanent cure.

Flonase - John - 06-09-2009

I have horrible allergies. I have been taking other medications for so long that I tried something new. The flonase reduce my sinus problems. One word of caution, if you have a sensitive nose spray the flonase towards the outside of your nose. This will reduce the possibility of a nose bleed.

Zocor - afton - 06-09-2009

Started taking Zocor Simvastatin formulation a
little over 4 years ago on my doctor's advice.
My cholesterol was high, over 300, and heart
disease has ran in my family history.

After 1 year my cholesterol level dropped to
180, a significant drop, on just a half daily
dose. My levels have remained in safe levels
ever since on the same dose. My doctor is
happy with the results and I am satisfied this
has worked so well and to date I have no side
effects from its use.

Effexor - Teri - 06-09-2009

I have ME/CFS which is not only very painful, but can and does cause depression. It's a chronically disabling neuro-immune disease for which there is no cure at this time. I was prescribed Effexor specifically for the aid in reducing pain, as the chemicals in our brains tend to become off-balanced in situations like this, and also to help me to better cope with having a chronic health condition. I have to say that although the effects weren't ground-breaking, it has helped immensely. I plan to continue taking this medication until there is a better treatment for this illness which will alleviate the constant pain and other debilitating symptoms.

Lexapro - Marla - 06-09-2009

Several years ago my husband and I were having issues, our daughter was experiencing academic problems of an undetermined nature (it was particularly upsetting as she was in the gifted program because of a high IQ but struggling with reading, writing, etc). I had recently given birth to a 3rd child whom we adore, but was not planned, and we were also facing financal hardships being self-employed. I felt I was overwhelmed and started experiencing physical symptoms like hair loss, vitaligo (pigment loss on my hands)and then hand swelling, shaking and it was thought I might have Lupus. Long story short I saw a psychiatrist who started me on 10mg Lexapro and then upped my dosage to 20mg. I never felt different, just realized I felt less stressed out. We are still dealing my our daughter's now diagnosed dyslexia and dysgraphia, financial issues, marriage fights and my on going vitaligo, and possible auto immune problems. Things with Lexapro are just more managable. Not solved, just makes it possible to handle problems a little less stressfully. I would recommend Lexapro use if your Dr feels it necessary. No side effects just positives!

Ambien - koda - 06-08-2009

This drug helped me during my divorce since I was having a horrible time turning my mind off to go to sleep. It also helped me stay asleep which is my main problem I have of waking up in the night and not being able to get to sleep. This drug is not something you should use every night I only use it when I have experienced several nights of not being able to sleep so I can be sure to get some sleep. Should not be used long term and as my doctor told me other methods to get to sleep can be used like stopping caffeine and taking tylenol pm sometimes this is not something you should become addicted to

Benicar - Stephanie Serer - 06-08-2009

My husband is a diabetic, and often suffers from high blood pressure due to his diabetes. The doctor recommended and prescribed Benicar in the 40mg dosage. My husband has been taking Benicar for two years now, and his blood pressure is under control. I like it because it keeps his blood pressure at a normal level, and maintains it that way. There have been occasions where we forget to refill the prescription on time, and he doesn't take it for a few days but when we check his blood pressure it is still normal. My reasoning for this is that the medication works by lowering the blood pressure and preventing it from getting high. So far he has not had any side effects, and the medication is definitely working.

Flonase - Meg - 06-08-2009

I have terrible seasonal allergies so my doctor prescribed flonase for me a few weeks ago. For the first few I couldn't really notice a change, but then on day five my nose cleared right up. I thought I'd found a wonder drug but shortly after my symptoms stopped the side effects started. I got horrible migraine headaches and my nose started stinging after about a week. It hurt so badly I had to skip work. All in all, I'd say if you take this medication you're definitely taking your chances.

NuvaRing - Ash - 06-08-2009

I had terrible cramps and PMS. So bad, that I would have to call in sick to work because I was in pain or throwing up. I made an appointment with my gynocologist to discuss changing my birth control because what the pill I was taking wasn't providing me with any relief. He recommended trying NuvaRing immediately because it was a more localized form of medication. I started using the NuvaRing immediately.
It is easy to insert and I don't notice it at all. My boyfriend also says that he rarely notices it there either, which is a plus because of its position.
Not only does it provide complete relief from my cramps, bloating, headaches and other pms symptoms but I don't have to worry about taking a pill at the same time every day. My calendar is set once a month to remind me to pick up my refill at the pharmacy and I insert it that same day.

Allegra - Ginny - 06-08-2009

About three years ago my physician recommended Allegra 180 mg tablets taken once daily for an added help with my allergic asthma. Before taking Allegra, I tried practically every over-the-counter and some prescription medications to help with my itchy eyes and sneezing.

After a few days of taking the Allegra tablet each morning, the itchy eyes and sneezing stopped. Not only that, but there were no side effects of taking the medication that I could find.

After having been driven to an emergency visit at a clinic several times because of swollen eyes on a weekend morning, I have been free of the problem now for three years. I am very grateful that my doctor prescribed this Allegra for me. I has certainly changed my life.

Prilosec OTC - Lillith - 06-08-2009

I had had heartburn for as long as I could remember, even as a young child. I had seriously tried everything--Rolaids, Tums, Pepcid, you name it. Nothing I tried barely made a dent in my heartburn. I could NEVER drink orange juice, and if I ate anything with tomatoes in it I'd suffer all night. At first I was concerned about taking it Prilosec long-term, but my doctor assured me it's safe and I have suffered no ill effects. The only downside is, now I can eat whatever I want so I've put on a few pounds!

Lexapro - Maloy - 06-08-2009

My mom has a neuro degenerative disease and her doctor prescribed here with lexapro. Her dosage was half tablet in the morning and half tablet and night. She seemed to respond well to the drug in the beginning. She was very combative and the medicine made her easier to care for. She also slept better at night.
The effect though was that she was so sleepy the whole day. After the initial response, it seemed to have no effect anymore. The doctor said she had built a tolerance for the medicine and she wanted to increase her dosage.

Augmentin - Zeke - 06-08-2009

My son had a virus or bacteria infection I think. He had high fever that would not abate for 3 days. He was chilling. I finally took him to the doctor on the third day.
She gave me the prescription right away. After 3 doses of the medicine it worked because he did not have fever anymore. It worked faster than the other anti biotics that she had given before.
There were no side effects observed by me. The only thing is he did not like the taste by the third day. The smell of the medicine was enough to make him feel bad and cry.

Zithromax - Ito - 06-08-2009

I had been sick for awhile. It was the common cold. But nothing seemed to work on the cold/flu symptoms that I had. I usually don't take anything unless really necessary. In the second week of my illness, the cold worsened instead of getting better so I took the Zithromax.
I was feeling better by the afternoon of the first day's dosage. It worked fast and well.
The only side effect it had on me was that my stomach could not take the strength of the medicine. I made sure I took it on a full stomach but it still made me go to the bathroom and my stomach hurt.

Adderall - Aurek - 06-07-2009

I've had ADD as long as I can remember, but only around 4-5 years ago did I start taking meds for it. The first and only pill I've popped so far is Adderall, and it's worked a charm. Well, somewhat. I can now pay attention to things easily, get work done, and even have less signs of depression; but, I've dropped a good 15 pounds, have skin reactions (acne, rashes, etc) that I've never had before. Oh, and I'd have major lack of sleep if not for Benadryl.

So, it's a toss up. I find myself just taking the meds now when I am feeling some MAJOR attention / depression / lazy issues. For that the symptoms aren't so bad, and my life is a lot better.
