I took Topamax for nine months in an attempt to prevent daily chronic migraines. I started out on a lower dose, then my doctor increased the dosage when there was no effect after a few months. I completely regret trying this medication. I experienced horrible side effect, including memory loss, difficulty focusing on tasks, bitter taste of certain foods, and weight loss. For months, I felt like I was living in a fog, and I would constantly space out when trying to do anything. It also made me extremely sleepy and groggy. There was no discernible effect on my migraines so I stopped using it. Even if the medication had worked a little, I would not have continued using it because of the the memory and concentration problems.

I was prescribed Topamax as an off-label anti-psychotic drug to aid with bipolar disorder. I discontinued treatment after two weeks, due to unbearable side effects.

It made me shaky, edgy, nauseated, and gave me a condition similar to narcolepsy. I slept about 13 hours a day, and still managed to fall asleep during classes.

It did help with mood swings, but mostly just because I wasn't awake for it. It also made me quite stupid, somewhat like how I imagine zombies feel.

My 14 year old son has problems with migraines. I was suggested by a friend to give him Topamax. The results were poor, it lacked the power to stop the pain that he had. I suggest tylenol or just about any other migraine medicine over Topamax.

I am discontinuing Topomax after 8 weeks of use. My doctor prescribed Topomax to treat recurring migraine headaches (typically 8 - 9 headaches per month). She prescribed 25mg Topomax 3 times per day (total 75mg daily). There has been no change at all in the frequency, duration or severity of my headaches. However, I am much more tired and sleepy than I was before I started taking Topomax. I'm also much less acute mentally than before I started this medication - I have trouble finding words when I speak or write (moreso when I speak), I have a lot of trouble concentrating, my reading comprehension has decreased and I have difficulty participating in conversations. It's interfering with my work and my life.

I was on this medication for about eight months. It was prescribed to me to treat my migraine headaches. It was mildly successful at preventing migraines, although I still had them occasionally while on the medication. I stopped using this medication because I was beginning to have noticeable side effects. I had a significant loss in appetite, and lost just over thirty pounds while on this medication. I also felt that the medicine was beginning to have a negative effect on my short term memory. Overall this was a mildly successful medication, but for me personally it was not worth the side effects.

I was prescribed this medication to help control headaches. It did not help me at all. There were no noticable side effects. This medication was written for an off label use. I took it for headaches that were caused by PTC, not for migraines. This medication has scientific research behind it that shows it to be effective in reducing CSF pressure in the head, however it provided no results for me.
