I have had problems with insomnia for years. It is helpful for me to use Ambien occasionally, and it is useful at this frequency, but not more often. If I try to use it nightly, I find that I have more and more trouble falling asleep as time goes by. I find that I have problems with short-term memory loss after taking it, and I also have some difficulty with concentration. These problems aside, when I am in real need of sleep, having had several sleepless nights, Ambien is a lifesaver.

Ambien lets me fall asleep. And usually stay asleep. Before Ambien I just could fall asleep and I would wake up a lot. I'm now using a CPAP and would like to think about getting off the Ambien because part of my insomnia was caused by sleep apnea. So we're experimenting with that. But if it doesn't work, it's okay with my doctor. Continuing to take Ambien is not a problem, if we both believe I need it.

I don't have any side effects.

I've been taking Ambien off and on for approximately 5yrs or
more. I haven't had any problems at all, sometimes I have
insomnia and I'll take one, but usually I'll try to go to sleep on my on first. I don't feel groggy or drunk in the morning. I have tried the Ambien CR, didn't work as well as the plain Ambien

I had problems falling asleep. Once I fell asleep I was fine, but it was just getting me to that point. After months of not sleeping well I saw my doctor and he prescribed me Ambien.

It really works, and I didn't experience any side effects. The next morning I would wake up feeling refreshed, not drowsy. I used Ambien every night for about 2 weeks, and there was no tolerance built up. Now I've gotten to the point where I only use it was needed.

I would definitely suggest this to anyone needing help with insomnia.

I started on Ambien last year and have really noticed a change for the better in my sleep habits. It helps me to fall asleep and stay that way all night. I can take it only a few times a week or all week and know that I'll rest either way.

I was on Ambien for a few weeks before deciding to discontinue use. At the time I was on two other drugs, Geodon and Paxil CR and was having trouble sleeping when I tried to cycle off the other 2 drugs.

Ambien does work in that it clearly knocks you out and helps you sleep. However, if you don't allot the full 8 hours I found sometimes that I woke up disoriented. Sometimes too when I was about to fall asleep I would get confused and disoriented.

For me, I'd stay away - if you can get the sleep without medication you are probably better off (at least in my opinion/circumstances).

I started having trouble sleeping over 2 years ago. My doctor and I tried a several different sleep medication. A couple worked but had unpleasant side effects; groggy in the morning, sleep walking, difficulty with memory. Finally, we tried AmbienCR. What a difference. I take it about 45 minutes before I go to bed. I'm asleep within minutes and almost always sleep through the night. I wake up with no trouble and am sharp throughout the day.

This has been a Godsend! I can get my work done, enjoy my family and enjoy life!

I have problems both falling asleep and staying asleep. It was fine in the beginning. helped me fall asleep but I started waking up in the middle of the night and doing things. I was packing bags of clothes, hiding them, cooking....all of this with ASOLUTELY NO RECOLLECTION.

I was prescribed this sleep aid to help reduce the lingering effects of post traumatic stress disorder. While the drug did affect my sleep, it did not seem to do so in a positive way. I felt confused upon awakening and seemed to lose my ability to recall dreams. I also felt tired in the morning as if the night had just "disappeared" rather than been experienced as restful and restorative sleep. I quit Ambien after only 2 weeks of taking it and although my post traumatic sleep patterns were not ideal or normal they certainly were preferable to taking Ambien.

Product works quickly and continues to perform throughout the night. Provides a restful sleep for 7-9 hours. Had no side effects. Was able to wake and go to the bathroom and make it back to bed, while remembering the experience.Cost was manageable with prescription drug program through employer. Overall 10 on a scale of 1-10. As a Doctoral student I have difficulty relaxing and not overthinking things at the end of the day. I need my sleep desperately. This medication was used to counteract that.

After trying numerous medication, I still couldn't get a good night's sleep. My doctor prescribed me Ambien CR so that I could sleep better. I have been using it consistently for almost a month now. It has been very effective. The only setback has been the fact that I need to sleep very early so that my next day is spoiled. It is quite powerful!

As a patient that suffered from severe pan-ulcerative colitis I was perpetually on high doses of cortico steroids like Prednisone. As a result, I often was unable to sleep at all because I was chemically over-stimulated & had an elevated heart rate, along with great anxiety relating to my disease. My disease, itself, caused poor sleep habits as well because I was constantly waking up to use the bathroom.

My doctor prescribed ambien to help me sleep. I initially started taking the 5-mg tablets, but over time my body built up a tolerance to it & I ended up taking 1.5 5mg tablets and eventually a full 10 mg dose after about 2 years. Your body definitely builds up a tolerance over an extended period of time & it is definitely habit-forming.

With that said, the drug as a whole did help me relax & made me drowsy enough to fall alseep. More importantly, once I fell asleep I slept relatively peacefully, & when I did wake up to use the restroom it made it much easier to fall back to sleep. In the end though, Ambien is probably most effective when used infrequently & only when it's absolutely needed (to avoid building up a tolerance).

I took this medication b/c I had some trouble falling asleep for a long while. The good part is that the first night it worked wonderfully, I feel asleep quickly and even though I still woke up a few times that night I was able to fall asleep again quickly. The bad part is that it had no effect the next night. I discovered through trial and error that it would not work for me two nights in a row. So I would have the take this one night and something else the next.

My travel doctor prescribed Ambien when I was traveling to China. I was arriving late Saturday China time (13 hours off from my home time zone), and needed to be alert for a full work week starting Monday morning. Ambien helped put me on a normal sleep schedule right away. No side effects at all, and I felt great in the morning--not drowsy or foggy like I've heard other sleep medications will do.

Also, a few years back I was dealing with a lot of stress and taking hours to fall asleep at night. I took Ambien a few nights per week and fell asleep easily, always within about 10-20 minutes. Again, no side effects, and I felt rested and great in the morning.

Your mileage may vary, but Ambien was terrific for me both times I needed it.

I was having problems sleeping due to the onset of menopause. I usually could fall asleep but I had trouble staying asleep. The most I would get is about 4 hours at a stretch. Ambien helped me get between 7 and 8 hours a night. Eventually the symptoms of menopause lessened and I was able to taper off of Ambien. I have it available in case I have problems, but I seem to be over the worst of it.

Ambien is advertised a lot on TV as a wonder drug. My own doctor was adament about putting me on the medication because I was having a terrible time getting to sleep and staying that way. I was also under a lot of stress at the time and he suggessted it may help with that as well.
After just a few times of taking Ambien, people started to tell me I was myself. I was groggy during the day and it was extremely hard for me to rise in the morning. I think people should be warned more clearly about the dangers of the side effects. I did not even feel comfortable driving. It is also habit forming.

I began taking this medication for post traumatic stress. Initially the medication seemed to work but then I began waking up in the middle of the night.

I also noticed I began to wake up and eat in the middle of the night. Also I began to forget events, places. I gained weight.

I had been having problems with insomnia and my doctor prescribed Ambien, 5mg. Though it did put me to sleep quite effectively, I had some negative side effects. In one instance, I had low grade hallucinations and a brief period of sleep walking. Overall, this prescription was effective in ending my insomnia but not without consequence.

This drug helped me during my divorce since I was having a horrible time turning my mind off to go to sleep. It also helped me stay asleep which is my main problem I have of waking up in the night and not being able to get to sleep. This drug is not something you should use every night I only use it when I have experienced several nights of not being able to sleep so I can be sure to get some sleep. Should not be used long term and as my doctor told me other methods to get to sleep can be used like stopping caffeine and taking tylenol pm sometimes this is not something you should become addicted to

I have always had trouble sleeping. My main problem is actually falling asleep. My doctor prescribed Ambien CR, which I only tried twice. It did help me fall asleep, which was nice. The problem is that I was practically unable to function the day after. I stopped taking it after I had to pay $75 for a locksmith when I locked myself out of my house the morning after I took it.

If you have nothing important to do the next day, it's a good way to get to sleep. But if you need to be alert and functioning the next day, stay away!

I have always had trouble falling asleep at night. When I was hospitalized for an injury, I was given Ambien one night and it was like a miracle drug! I fell asleep almost instantly and was asleep for a solid eight hours.

My doctor prescribed Ambien for me after I had returned home since I'd had such good results. Unfortunately, I habituated to the Ambien quite quickly and it lost its effect after about a month.

I recommend it highly for people who have trouble sleeping in the short term but for long term usage, it was not effective for me.

While taking Lexapro, an antidepressant, I found it nearly impossible to get a good night's sleep, so my doctor prescribed Ambien CR. It helped the first night I took it up until the last day I was on Lexapro. It didn't knock me out cold, but let me fall asleep feeling relaxed. I would highly recommend it to people with sleep problems caused by other medications.
