Toprol-XL - Paul - 07-02-2009

My doctor put me on Toprol after I experienced a run of Ventricular Tachacardia (rapid heartbeat). Basically the drug slowed my heart down. My experience with the drug was very bad. My muscles hurt when I tried to do anything physical because my heart was not beating fast enough to supply oxygen for my muscles. I began to gain weight especially around my middle and my hair started to thin out. All of these were side effects of the drug. I stopped taking the drug because I could not tolerate the side effects.

Tricor - George Kaplan - 07-02-2009

I have a family history of high triglyceride levels. My readings were extremely elevated. I was put on Tricor and immediately got better results. It also decreased my cholesterol levels, which were borderline to sightly elevated. Each year I got better and lower readings for triglycerides. However, after about six years, I experienced frequent disgestive problems (diarrhea, stomach discomfort) which were not listed as possible side effects of Tricor. Various medical tests and treatments failed to relieve the problem. Convinced that the medicine was affecting my digestive functions, I asked my doctor to allow me to go off the Tricor to see if that would make a difference. After about two weeks off the Tricor, my digestive system dramatically improved and has remained in good working order. My conclusion? Long term use of this medicine began to interfere with diegestive function.

Coumadin - Mimi - 07-02-2009

My hemotologist monitors my pt/inr regularly along with blood pressure. I take it to ensure that I don't have a recurrence of severe bilateral pulmonary emboli. I've had no problems with the medicine. I put the week's pills in a case Sundays, so I never have to guess whether or not I've forgotten to take the day's dose. Sometimes my dosing shifts up a little. So I have to stagger days of 6 mg dosing in among the normal days of 5 mg dosing. I wish these pills were a little easier to cut up into smaller dosings, like 1 mg or 2 mg for those cases. It is hard to stock at home all the different "denom inations" and hard to get insurance and pharmacists, etc to go along with dispensing all those vials.

Glucophage - Mac - 07-02-2009

I have been on this medication for over a year now and I love it. It has helped control my glucose levels tremendously as I am a type 2 diabetic. I was using the regular Met 500 prior to taking ER. The regular dosage caused extreme intestinal problems and had to be discontinued. I have since been very pleased with the Met ER 500 and hope to kick my type 2 diabetes for good!

Yaz - Kristen - 07-02-2009

I did well on Zovia for years but my doctor recommended this because it had a lower dose of estrogen. I love this pill -- my period is regular and light; I have experienced no side effects from the pill and a lessening of PMS symptoms. It's more expensive than my previous pill, but worth the extra money.

Adderall - Shannon - 07-02-2009

I was diagnosed with ADHD as a child, and switched around on medications until my doctor and parents settled on Adderall. At the time, it seemed like it worked great, and it did for a long while. I was focused and attentive in school, my grades were fine, and I was in many advanced and accelerated classes, despite my difficulties. However, whenever effects started to wane, my doctor simply upped my dose, and didn't consider any other options.

After years of use, however, I started having issues with major mood swings, nausea, loss of appetite, and near the end of my run, severe depression, horrible insomnia, and suicidal behavior. Ultimately, my grades and social like suffered greatly.

I felt better, more human, the days I wasn't on medication. While medicated, I felt zombie like, with no energy or motivation to do anything. It was horrible!

Lexapro - Alyssa - 07-02-2009

I went on Lexapro after I started having problems with anxiety. It didn't seem to have a huge impact. I did notice some limited relief. But after about a year it just seemed to stop working one day. All of a sudden all my symptoms came back very strong. The good thing about Lexapro was that it didn't have very many side effects.

Vicodin - Al - 07-02-2009

I obtained this prescription after having my wisdom teeth removed. It certainly did help reduce the pain of dry socket, but not without some side effects. I found that reducing the recommended dose reduced the initial nausea associated with taking it. Also the drug seemed to give me symptoms that mimic a low-grade fever such as mild confusion and dizziness and hot flashes. However, the effectiveness of an opiate-based painkiller such as this is well worth the side effects to me.

Tylenol with Codeine - Al - 07-02-2009

This product is very effective at reducing pain, due to the fact that it is derived from opiates. The product can cause some slight nauseousness and dizziness to those unfamiliar with the experience of taking opiates, but these effects do not seem to linger past the first or second dose, at least for me. I wish this product (codeine) was still available over the counter as it is very effective at reducing coughing as well as pain.

Lunesta - Al - 07-02-2009

I was prescribed Lunesta to help treat insomnia that developed following a traumatic experience. While Lunesta certainly does increase the total amount of sleep a person obtains in a night, I felt that the quality of sleep decreased while on this drug. I often had the feeling of waking up one second after I fell asleep although a whole night had passed. I had extreme difficulty recalling any dreams that I had and this may have been part of the reason why the sleep seemed to me to be of a lower quality.

Keflex - Al - 07-02-2009

I was prescribed this drug to treat an infectious disease that had overwhelmed and swollen a lymph node in my thigh. While the antibiotic (in combination with other antibiotics) did eventually beat the infection, the experience of taking the drug was not too enjoyable. I found that it made my skin feel hot and I felt a bit nauseous and dizzy. Taking the pills on an empty stomach caused them to be vomited back up immediately. Also, the combination of antibiotics that I took appeared to also kill off all the beneficial bacteria in my body.

Percocet 10/650 - Al - 07-02-2009

I was prescribed Percocet after having my wisdom teeth removed. The opiate derivative was effective at lessening the pain but I believe that because it must be taken in this pill form rather than a natural version, such as an opium tea, it hit my stomach quite hard and caused some nausea and fever-like side effects. However, I am grateful to be able to obtain any sort of opiate when in such great pain and would recommend this product or taken it again.

Ambien - Al - 07-02-2009

I was prescribed this sleep aid to help reduce the lingering effects of post traumatic stress disorder. While the drug did affect my sleep, it did not seem to do so in a positive way. I felt confused upon awakening and seemed to lose my ability to recall dreams. I also felt tired in the morning as if the night had just "disappeared" rather than been experienced as restful and restorative sleep. I quit Ambien after only 2 weeks of taking it and although my post traumatic sleep patterns were not ideal or normal they certainly were preferable to taking Ambien.

Prozac - Tom - 07-02-2009

Wow! I became depressed after my financial situation took a turn for the worse and starting seeping over into my school and social life. I was taken to a psychologist by my brother for psychotherapy, but it didn't really go anywhere. I was far too depressed to talk to someone about my problems. But after being prescribed Prozac for about 2 months, I was able to open up a bit and being the road to recovery. The combination of therapy and prozac has made a big difference in my life!

LOTREL 10/40 - Tom - 07-02-2009

High blood pressure runs in my family and I was diagnosed at around 20 years old. I was told to go see my doctor after my blood pressure was sky high at a checkup for plasma donation. My doctor immediately prescribed lotrel and things have been great ever since.

With a combination of diet, exercise and lotrel my high blood pressure is finally under control.

Allegra - Ian - 07-02-2009

I took this for hives and eczema. It worked wonderfully at first as all the symptoms disappeared for about 20 hours. I didn't get a timed release tablet, so maybe that may have made a difference in the duration of the relief. But 20 hours was good enough.

Unfortunately, I started to develop pain in my knees and elbow joints. It was gradual at first, but then it got much worse over the course of a week. I had to stop taking it because I couldn't climb up the stairs without pulling myself up with the handrail.

I was very sad to stop taking it because it worked so well otherwise. It took about 4 days to be able to walk up the stairs normally after I stopped taking it. I tried taking half a pill but the very same thing happened.

Buspar - Rose - 07-02-2009

I was prescribed this drug for pain caused by an auto immune disorder. One day after taking this, I had total loss of bowel control and severe stomach pain. The doctor recommended I double my dosage, I refused. The next day the stomach was fine. It had no effect on the nerve pain.

Voltaren - AnitaJay - 07-02-2009

My doc added a prescription for Diclofenac (Voltaren) for me when I asked him about increasing the amount of Ibuprofen I was taking daily for arthritis pain in my knees. It's tough getting old! I take the Diclo twice a day, in the morning and at night, and it works wonderfully. I had gotten to the point where I was taking almost a gram of Ibuprofen a couple times a day, because I needed it during the day to get around, and I needed it at night otherwise my knee pain would wake me up when I moved in bed.

I haven't suffered any side effects from the Diclofenac, and in fact have run across a couple other people who are also taking it. Apparently it has been around for a while and not all docs were prescribing it, preferring to go to Celebrex or Vioxx or some other drug like that. I've been very happy with the Diclofenac.

Altace - AZPITCHER - 07-02-2009

My high blood pressure was non responsive to most of th combination of drugs the doctor tried and I was worried that my Blood Pressure would never be normal.

We finally tried Ramipril in combination with another drug that I had taken for a while and my BP has never been over 123/82 since I started the Ramipril. This was a life changing event and relieved me of the worry I had over the Blood Pressure

I used Celebrex because I had a knee problem that caused pain on a regular basis. I also had stiffness in the joint and tried another popular drug which made me itch tremendously.

After taking Celebrex the stiffness in the joint pretty much disappeared and the pain was almost completely gone.

Synthroid - numidian - 07-01-2009

I went to the doctor for heart palpitations. After a thorough exam and several blood tests the results showed early signs of hypothyroidism. The endocrinologist decided it was best to start taking thyroid medication right away before any other symptoms appeared.

I have been on this medication for about a year now and it seems to be working great. Within a few months my thyroid levels have returned to normal and everything looks great. The only drawback is that this a a daily medication for life and must be taken in the morning an hour before you eat. So it may require a bit of a change in your daily routine.

My 14 year old son lost a lot of weight in a short amount of time. I've heard that this is a sign of diabetes so I took him to the doctor to see if he was alright. The doctor found that type 2 diabetes. They also found that he had high levels of blood pressure. He was put on Beniar and ever since it's kept his blood pressure levels under check.

Adderall - KTinaY - 07-01-2009

My autistic son took this medication for behavior problems in school. He was also impulsive so his development pediatrician prescribed this medication. He started taken it and at first he had some sleepiness. That quickly went away. The doctor had warned us that he could lose his appetite but he never had that problem.
In the end we ended up having to switch him to another type of medication because it seemed that this medication stopped working.
Overall, I think this was a good medication without a lot of side effects for my son.
