Comes with side effects which in my case is to cause arthritic hands. But the purpose of this medication is to prevent recurrence of cancer, so I'm ok with it.

Very expensive!

Zocor - Jeff - 07-01-2009

My doctor prescribed Simistatin for me due to marginally high cholesterol (just over 200 points total) and a family history of heart disease. The first few weeks I took this medication I didn't notice much difference in my personal well being. After retesting my cholesterol it was down 30 points to much more acceptable levels.

However I started to notice that I was getting very stiff at work. If I sat still for more than 30 minutes I wouldn't be able to get up without feeling sore all over. I will be seeing my doctor soon to discuss alternatives.

Vicodin - JG - 07-01-2009

I had a root canal done on my front tooth. I was in unbearable pain. I could not sleep or eat. I could not function.
After using Hydrocodone, I was able to function normally. It did cause constipation, but this was less then the pain that I felt from my root canal.

Allegra-D 12 Hour - Pat - 07-01-2009

I have pet allergies as well as hay fever and have tried many different medications, including Allegra. Unfortunately Allegra, just as with most other prescription medications, did not work as well for me as it advertised. I have family members who use it and think it is great, but for me i kept having attacks.

Aciphex - Pat - 07-01-2009

For years I had chronic and severe ulcer-like pain and resorted to taking as many as 20 antacid tablets a day to ease my pain. After undergoing several endoscope exams and seeing several doctors, my GE prescribed Aciphex to me.

After a few days I started to feel noticeably better. I was able to stop my bland diet after a week, and resume a normal diet that included Thai food and moderate alcohol consumption. This was a fantastic experience and since taking Aciphex, my stomach pains have ended.

Flexeril - kframe - 07-01-2009

While I will say that the drug effectively treats my back muscle spasms, the side-effects make it so that I wait to use it until I absolutely have to. I'm prone to restless leg syndrome, and when I take this drug, the sensation spreads to my entire body, and is very uncomforable. It also stays in my system for a long time, making me very drowsy the following day. I was prescribed the 10 mg version, but I always cut it in half.

Overall, I find it satisfactory because it does treat my symptoms, but I don't enjoy the side effects.

Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo - Claire - 07-01-2009

This is my favorite birth control pill that gave me no side effects whatsoever, and was easy to take. Unlike pills with stronger hormones, I didn't experience any cramping in my legs or elsewhere, and it didn't affect my libido at all. I highly recommend this pill for those people who may have had problems on another pill with higher doses of hormones.

Advair Diskus - Floyd - 07-01-2009

Advair discus is a pretty convenient way to control moderate asthma. Unfortunately, it doesn't replace the need for your rescue inhaler (which is albuterol for me), because it is not fast acting.
However, I found that even after just a few days of taking advair, I seldom (if ever) needed to use my rescue inhaler. It is, however, a rather expensive choice for asthma medication, even if you have insurance. Sporadic use can be dangerous, because it can actually cause asthma symptoms to become worse in the short term.

Paxil - Claire - 07-01-2009

I had a very bad experience with Paxil, which I used to treat post-traumatic stress following a major surgery. Initially, I felt better taking it, but soon tried to reduce the dosage and began experiencing electrical-shock symptoms in my extremities and brain. The shocks would occur every 20-30 seconds, rendering regular work and life absolutely miserable. It took me six months to get off of this drug by cutting up pills into smaller sizes, but I still had those symptoms as I reduced doses. I have found that meditation, exercise, good sleep and a good diet go far further in alleviating any depression or anxiety.

This is the 3rd drug in my depression coctail, and it seems to be helping. Aside from weight gain (which I didn't have from any other psych drugs) I don't seem to have side effects.

Buproprian was added to my psych mix (1 of 3 drugs) and seems to have helped quite a bit. I have more energy, am not down as much nor as often, and haven't been suicidal in months. I do have some GI side effects, which seem to be dose-related, and sexual side effects (ditto).

Yaz - Katie - 07-01-2009

This medication made me sick to my stomach for the first month and gave me mood swings. I also noticed a general leveling out of libido. But now that I have been on Yaz for a year the symptoms have leveled out and I feel normal. My periods are light and cramps less severe. Overall it has been a positive experience.

Ambien - Kimberly - 07-01-2009

Product works quickly and continues to perform throughout the night. Provides a restful sleep for 7-9 hours. Had no side effects. Was able to wake and go to the bathroom and make it back to bed, while remembering the experience.Cost was manageable with prescription drug program through employer. Overall 10 on a scale of 1-10. As a Doctoral student I have difficulty relaxing and not overthinking things at the end of the day. I need my sleep desperately. This medication was used to counteract that.

Vicodin - MKEgal - 07-01-2009

This is the first pain-control drug I was prescribed after a crash, and once the morphine from the ER wore off I was glad I had vicodin. It not only controlled the pain but allowed me to sleep & heal.

I was slightly constipated, but it was easily managed. I was also not very hungry, had to be reminded to eat, but I don't know if that's a side effect.

This worked very well for me and I had no problem with addiction.

Ambien - Jean Grey - 07-01-2009

After trying numerous medication, I still couldn't get a good night's sleep. My doctor prescribed me Ambien CR so that I could sleep better. I have been using it consistently for almost a month now. It has been very effective. The only setback has been the fact that I need to sleep very early so that my next day is spoiled. It is quite powerful!

Risperdal - MKEgal - 07-01-2009

This was added to an antidepressant I was already taking, after I had a very bad episode. The NP who prescribed it said that new research showed this works as a catalyst with antidepressants, making them work better.

In my case, I went from being actively suicidal to giggling in my sleep within a week (the dream didn't seem quite as funny when I was fully awake, but it was hilarious while asleep). Things got better, even on a relatively low dose.

I had no side effects that I know of, and look forward to using this drug for a long time.

Paxil - MKEgal - 07-01-2009

This was the first medicine I was ever given to help with depression, and it was marvelous. I had a very kind & patient doc who started me at the lowest dose, and eventually worked up to the highest, then as things got under control lowered it again. I can't believe the difference in how I felt! Yes, it takes a while to work, but so do most psych drugs. I had no side effects. It eventually stopped working well, so I was transitioned to another medicine.

Duragesic - SuzyQ - 07-01-2009

Toward the very end of my dad's pancreatic cancer battle, he was having a lot of problems with pain. He was already taking Oxycontin time-release pills three times a day plus Percocet for breakthrough pain, but toward the end, he was having a lot of pain despite the medication prescribed. So his doctor suggested a Fentanyl patch. Although it was supposed to be good for three days, we found that after 48 hours it was losing its effectiveness and were given permission to change it every two days instead of every three days. It is hard to say whether this gave any relief or not, since he was on other powerful pain meds at the same time. Thankfully the only side effect from any of this stuff was constipation. He did not experience hallucinations or other mind-altering experiences, and was coherent until the very end. The patch went on easily, although he was pretty much skin and bones at the end of his illness.

Darvocet - MKEgal - 07-01-2009

This was a step-down drug for me, following a crash which included broken & severely bruised bones. After several weeks on stronger medicine, my doctor gave me this to both control the pain and allow me to be more clear-headed. It worked on both accounts. The only side effect I noticed was some constipation, which was rectified by drinking more water & eating more fiber.

Percocet - SuzyQ - 07-01-2009

When my dad was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, he was suffering from horrible pains. The doctor first prescribed over the counter medication such as Tylenol and Advil, but as his pain grew, he threw in Percocet. My dad was instructed to take it as soon as he felt the pain coming on, but as most men try to be stoic, my dad would wait until it got unbearable before taking the pill, and then it took about 15 minutes to work. If my dad would keep ahead of the pain, the Percocet did a good job of controlling the breakthrough pain that he experienced. Later on, my dad's doctor prescribed Oxycontin, which in conjunction with Percocet, did a decent job of controlling pain most of the time without any severe side effects other than pretty constant constipation. Sadly, my dad succumbed to his disease after just three months. But Percocet did a satisfactory job of keeping most of the pain at bay, as long as it was taken at the very onset of the pain.
