I have suffered from depression since my late teens and as I got older it just got worse: the lethargy, the loss of interest in things I once enjoyed, and even feelings of anxiety and nervousness. My symptoms became overwhelming, but after long discussions and visits with my doctor he prescribed paxil for both my depression and anxiety. Within two weeks I noticed improvement in my mood and experienced less nervousness. I even began to take my anti-anxiety med less often (it was to be used as necessary). Now I am doing more and experiencing more of life with the help of my doctor and paxil.

I was put on Paxil in high school through a very heavy bought of depression. It helped with my eating disorder/obsessive thoughts, but it made me really numb. I felt like a zombie for 3 years, I found it hard to laugh or get excited. And forget about a sex drive.

This is the best SSRI that I have ever been on.
It is the only SSRI that completely took care of my anxiety and depression symptoms. It also quelled my insomnia and allowed me to sleep for more than 4-6 hours at a time. However, my new doctor does not approve of the medication and will not prescribe it to me.

I was prescribed Paxil at the age of 13 for depression. Not only did it lessen my depression, it numbed all emotions. I was like a walking zombie for two years. If I forgot to take a pill, I would experience shocking sensations in my head and fingers, and dizziness. I had no interest in doing anything. An example of the extremity of the emotional numbness I experienced concerns a horrible car accident in which I was a passenger. As the car was flying through the air and rolling into the ditch, my only thought was a calm "so this is what it's like to die in a car crash", and when we were removed from the vehicle and the others were in hysterics, I sat calmly on the ground as though nothing happened.
After two years the doctor decided to take me off the medication and try talk-therapy. The withdrawal symptoms I experienced were the worst I have ever felt- extreme and constant shock sensations, dizziness, and nausea made functioning unbearable, as I could not focus on anything while experiencing this. After the withdrawal I laughed at something I saw on the TV and my mother looked over and said, "I think that is the first time I have heard you laugh in a few years."

I was prescribed Paxil for my increading anxiety and panic disorder. Before taking it, I expressed my concerns to the doctor about the side effects. He made it very clear that I needed to wait them out and push through the side effects for at least a month before it might balance out and I would feel ok.

Upon taking Paxil, I noticed a huge increase in my anxiety. I fealt like I was "not myself" and I seemed to be in a daze most of the time. My vision would blur a lot and I would get teary eyes. I also found myself yawning all the time which was very annoying.

Overall, Paxil made me not want to leave my house. I fealt like I couldn't safely drive or comfortably interact with other people.

I stuck with it for two months until I just couldn't stand it anymore. Then I weaned myself off of it. I would rather live with my anxiety then live like that.

I was prescribed Paxil for severe anxiety problems I was experiencing. Within about a week I began to feel better and within three weeks the anxiety was gone completely. Unfortunately the paxil left me feeling drained. I experienced extreme fatigue and barely had the energy to get moving in the morning. For a couple of years I dealt with this as best I could, and felt that it was a reasonable trade off to not have to deal with the anxiety. Several years ago I was prescribed Wellbutrin to take along with the Paxil to curb the side effects. It has worked wonders for me! Now I take the Paxil with no negative side effects!

When my father was diagnosed with a terminal illness, he was having trouble sleeping and was extrmely depressed. He refused an official anti-depressant, but his doctor talked him into taking a Paxil before he went to bed. That little pill was a lifesaver for my mom and me, as it allowed my dad to get to sleep and stay asleep. It also seemed to help him cope with his illness much better. There were no side effects, and once my dad realized that the pill was helping him get some much needed rest and feel better the next day, he took it without any arguments.

Paxil CR works very well to treat anxiety/depression. In a small dose (12.5 mg a day) it is hardly noticeable at times. It works well to help you deal with being overwhelmed by stress. One unfortunate side effect for me however, is that my jaw seems to be clenched. This is becoming a problem, and may lead to me eventually cycling off or choosing a new medication.

I had a very bad experience with Paxil, which I used to treat post-traumatic stress following a major surgery. Initially, I felt better taking it, but soon tried to reduce the dosage and began experiencing electrical-shock symptoms in my extremities and brain. The shocks would occur every 20-30 seconds, rendering regular work and life absolutely miserable. It took me six months to get off of this drug by cutting up pills into smaller sizes, but I still had those symptoms as I reduced doses. I have found that meditation, exercise, good sleep and a good diet go far further in alleviating any depression or anxiety.

This was the first medicine I was ever given to help with depression, and it was marvelous. I had a very kind & patient doc who started me at the lowest dose, and eventually worked up to the highest, then as things got under control lowered it again. I can't believe the difference in how I felt! Yes, it takes a while to work, but so do most psych drugs. I had no side effects. It eventually stopped working well, so I was transitioned to another medicine.

Paxil was the first drug prescribed to me when I was deeply clinically depressed. It was extraordinarily helpful. I initially experienced some of the usual side effects, such as queasiness, but they resolved fairly quickly. Recovering from depression was a gradual process, but this drug made it possible and I felt "normal" for the first time in years.

However, after a few years I had to switch drugs. Paxil made me tired all the time and had a numbing effect on the way I felt. My doctor reduced the dose gradually over months, but I finally decided I was feeling "drugged" too much of the time and had to get off Paxil.

This was an attempt to see if antidepressants would work for me, and I had been hearing about them on TV. I took Paxil for less than two weeks until I could not put up with the side effects, which were constipation, and numbness in my male organ. Other antidepressants do work for me, but with this one the side effects outweighed any potential benefits if I was to keep taking it.

It recommended to try Paxil for my panic and anxiety disorder and so I did. I knew it would take a few weeks for it to show any signs of helping but even in the first couple of days I could feel the effect. I felt like a zombie. Usually a fun loving person, I found myself looking around at my family as a spectator, rather than a participant and not only losing the ability to laugh but also to feel anything, anger, sadness, etc. One week into using Paxil, I was awakened at 4am on the dot, like a bell went off and I was in the throws of the worse panic attack ever. From 4 to 5:30am I paced the floor having terrible thoughts of death and dying and some as severe as an actual suicidal thought. At 5:30am I was able to calm myself to the degree that I could lay down but my mind still raced. I finally fell asleep. About 3 hours later I awoke and still had the panic feelings but not as bad, called doctor to report he told me to cease using it. It was scary.

This was a great drug... until I realized I could no longer get out of bed. I was doing great, however, managing my anxiety. I had absolutely no problem in that area. Prior to taking the medication, I would get flashes where I'd have trouble breathing. After taking the medication, I had no anxiety problems at all. It seemed like I was almost too OK with everything.

When I began to realize just how much of a grip the medication had on me, I had to get off it. I began to wake up (late morning to early afternoon mind you) and my body would tingle. So, in summary:

1. Great for taking care of the anxiety problems.
2. Trouble waking up / getting out of bed
3. Tingles in the morning

I am now on Zoloff and things are going just okay. At first, I felt much better - getting out of bed was no longer a problem, but now I get bad migraines. I did before the Paxil, but while I was on the Paxil, I noticed no migraines at all. I'm trying to cope with the problems and stick with the dosage of Zoloff I am on now, but I may consider going with a stronger dosage.

Prior to taking paxil, I was on hormones and developed breast cancer. I was prescribed paxil as an alternative to hormones so alleviate the symptoms of menopause. Many symptoms, including hot flashes can be managed with paxil. I thank God everyday for it. It helps to manage mood swings, hot flashes and insomnia, all symptoms of menopause. I would highly recommend paxil for managing menopausal symptoms.

My doctor prescribed Paxil (paroxetine) for depression and anxiety. Paxil has gotten both under control with minimal, tolerable side effects. More important, it's done this without turning me into a zombie. It's like someone just turned down the volume on the depression and the anxiety.

The most obvious side effect is a decreased interest in sex; since my partner has little interest in this area it hasn't been a problem.

Prescribed this medication for a few years and notice the difference when not taking the daily dosage. At first is was just 5mg but I know it had to be moved up to 20mg so now I do not get depressed as much and a little more motivation gets me doing daily activities I would not want to normally perform. Paxil, also Paroxeteine does help but you have to take it daily as prescribed. Side affects are nausea and drowsiness.

Paxil was one of several antidepressant drugs prescribed for me over a period of ten years. I had been on Wellbutrin before the Paxil, and since coming off Paxil I have been taking Zoloft (sertraline).

Paxil "took the edges off" my life - I didn't experience the "lows" I had tolerated before, where I felt like I was *never* in a good mood. At the same time, however, Paxil took away the occasional "highs" I had experienced in the past. Even my friends noticed the difference. Gone was the righteous indignation I used to spout off about conditions at work - so many thought I just didn't care anymore. My take, though, was that I wasn't bothered by what I now considered the "small stuff." I attribute the change in my attitude to the Paxil.

My only complaint about Paxil - and the reason for my switching to Zoloft - was the sexual side effect of a NOTICEABLE decrease in my libido. I didn't mind feeling like "whatever" where it came to my work...but I DID mind feeling like "whatever" when it came to whether I wanted to have sex or not. I mentioned this change to my doc and she told me Paxil could affect people in this way, and offered to try me on Zoloft. I changed, and I'm not affected in that way by the Zoloft and I've continued with it.

I appreciated Paxil's effects and how it worked, but this particular side effect was something I didn't want to live with.

I have been using this medication for years now. It has seemed to help my mood swings. Before I started taking them I was so angry all the time. Now I do have bad days, but for the most part my days are great. I do remember when I first started taking them if I was a little late taking them I would get a strange feeling coming over me but now since I have taken them for so long I can miss a day and not get that crawly feeling. I think this product has definitely helped my life.

My psychiatrist prescribed Paxil for my anxiety and depression. The drug seemed to work initially, as I felt more energetic. Unfortunately, about two weeks after I started taking the drug, I "crashed" and became extremely depressed for several days. After several days I started to feel more like my normal self.

I am discontinuing the drug for several reasons. I feel that the drug has caused my moods to be more unstable. I have missed several doses by accident and I notice that on the days I miss my doses, I tend to get very paranoid and I cry at the drop of a hat. Although I haven't experienced any more "crashes" while taking the drug, my friends have pointed out that I occasionally appear to be to "grandiose" or "manic". In retrospect, Paroxetine was not the best choice for me but it might work for someone else.
