I have pet allergies as well as hay fever and have tried many different medications, including Allegra. Unfortunately Allegra, just as with most other prescription medications, did not work as well for me as it advertised. I have family members who use it and think it is great, but for me i kept having attacks.

I have many environmental allergies (pollens, mold, dander). I have tried numerous other allergy medicines in the past 25 years, and Allegra-D works the best.

I still find that I need to supplement it with additional antihistamines when allergen levels are very high. I have not experienced any side effects when using this medication.

I have hay fever, pet dander and mold allergies.

Over the years I tried Tavist-D and Claritin-D when they were still prescription-only and many Over-The-Counter allergy/decongestant combinations too: Benadryl, Tylenol Allergy, Sudafed Allergy (and Zyrtec once it was released for OTC use), none of them helped. They all made my mouth dry and I felt jittery but I still couldn't breathe.

Allegra-D has been the only prescription that continues to keep my allergies under control. I tried the 24-hour type once, but it made me feel jittery too. Remembering to take a tablet once in the morning and once before bed is easy enough. The downside is the expense. No generic and no OTC version means a high co-pay if you have insurance or over $100 at Walgreens if you do not.
