Zyrtec - Jerry - 07-02-2009

I was given a 30-day round of Zyrtec to help clear my lungs (I had some bronchial constriction). Even though he told that it would not make me feel dizzy, I felt sleepy every time I took it. Also it did not help with much my lungs and eventually I had to go back to the doctor because I developed bronchitis.

Diovan HCT 160/25 - Lisa - 07-02-2009

I take Diovan HCT for high blood pressure. After experimenting with the dosage, the 160/25 pill worked well. It also has the added advantage of being a diuretic, thus managing the excess water in my legs and feet. My doctor is very satisfied with the results.

I was a bit tired the first few weeks, but have had no problems since then.

Neurontin - Jessica - 07-02-2009

After being in a car accident, I started to have shooting pains through my left arm where the impact from the accident had been. The other medication I had been prescribed wasn't helping it. My doctor then prescribed the Neurontin.

Once I started to take the Neurontin and it kicked in, it helped immediately. The pain in my arm completely went away.

I had no side effects while on Neurontin and was very pleased with my experience.

Ativan - Jessica - 07-02-2009

I have heard from many people I know that Ativan is a miracle drug for people with anxiety problems. I, on the other hand, can't stand it. I may be the exception to the rule, but all it did for me was make me feel like I drank a 6 pack of beer.

I took it for the first time when I went out with friends. I was feeling extremely nervous and anxious. I did start to loosen up, but then I just fealt really drunk. When my husband and I left, I was driving. It started to effect me so bad I had to pull over and let him drive.

There weren't any other bad side effects. So I guess if you're ok with feeling drunk, then it might be good for you. I want to add that Ativan does not do that to my friend who also takes it. It works fine for her.

Oh yes, and my doctor highly stressed the fact that Ativan is a highly abused and addictive drug. Yet another reason I don't feel so great about taking it again.

Flomax - Steelers - 07-02-2009

I was prescribed Flomax for an enlarged prostate, which increased the frequency and duration of my urination. Flomax has now allowed me to sleep through the night and stop the "dribbles" when I urinate. I have not experienced any side effects.

Effexor - Jessica - 07-02-2009

I have tried several medications for my anxiety and panic disorder, but I have to say that Effexor gave me the worse side effects out of all of them. I fealt like I had taken an illegal drug and that I was high or something. The side effects were the same as the other anti-depressants, but much worse.

The side effects for my were blurred vision, constant yawning and stretching, feeling "foggy", and a severe increase in my anxiety. It was so bad that I locked myself in my apartment the whole time and avoided talking on the phone. I tried to wait it out like the doctor said to see if the side effects would lessen, but it was so bad that I just couldn't take it. I stopped taking Effexor fairly quickly.

This is another medication added to my list to never take again.

Nexium - Steelers - 07-02-2009

Nexium was prescribed for my gastric reflux and it has worked wonders. I tried a number of different prescriptions in the past before trying Nexium. As long as I take it on a regular basis, I have no problems with reflux. The challenge is that it works so good that sometimes I stop and at the first signs of reflux I realize that I need to start again. I have not experienced any side effects.

Tylenol with Codeine - Emmett - 07-02-2009

While I was walking back home, a car passed through a sidewalk and drove over my foot. I was in intense pain, as my foot swelled and hurt. My doctor prescribed me Tylenol Codeine, and it helped me greatly. My pain was soothed, and the swelling went down. Soon enough, I could walk again with no problems whatsoever.

Flonase - Steelers - 07-02-2009

I have tried a number of different prescriptions in the past that either made me hyper or sleepy. When I started with Flonase it proved to be the right one for my nasal problems. The challenge I find is that it clears up my sinus and I stop taking it for awhile and then have to start over again. I had 2 prior nose operations and still need another one. With Flonase, I have put off my next operation for now. I did not experience any side effects.

Wellbutrin - Tom - 07-02-2009

I was prescribed Wellbutrin several years back. I was in college and having considerable problems with depression. This was the medication my general practitioner recommended to me and was willing to write a scrip for without a separate psychiatric consult.

While I wouldn't say it reversed my depression completely, it definitely took the edge off. I was more energetic and, generally, less self-destructive. I experienced only minor sexual side-effects and some very positive weight loss. Some people reported that it caused trouble sleeping, but as I've always had some problems with insomnia, I can't speak as to that.

Unfortunately, after several months I was having a hard time remembering to take the medication regularly and subsequently discontinued use all together. Given my largely positive experience, I should really get back on Wellbutrin.

Vicodin - Jessica - 07-02-2009

I was given Vicodin one time at an emergency room when I was having a severe migraine. The pain was so bad that I was banging my head on the wall and crying horribly.

They let me rest with some IV fluids for a while and then sent me home with a prescription for the Vicodin. My husband and I stopped at the pharmacy to get the prescription filled. I went inside to fill it and passed out in the middle of the isle for about 5 seconds. No one saw it happen so I crawled to the pharmacy counter, nearly scared them half to death, and asked where the bathroom was. I managed to get off the floor and hurry to the bathroom where I immediately began vomitting. I was so dizzy and sick.

My husband finally came looking for me and took me home. I have never taken Vicodin since.

Nasonex - Ann - 07-02-2009

After battling a sinus infection for more than three months (and three different antibiotics) last winter, my physician finally prescribed Nasonex. I have year-round allergies, which had been under control up to that point, but which also apparently contributed to my sinusitis. Once the inhaler was part of the mix, the infection finally cleared. I experienced no side effects.

Diflucan - Kat - 07-02-2009

My OB/GYN NP prescribed a 6-month course of oral fluconazole to treat a persistent yeast infection. She prescribed 1 pill every other day for a week, then once weekly for the next 3 weeks, and then once monthly for the following 5 months. After the initial multi-dose monthly regimen, the infection cleared. It flared up during the second & third months, but subsided quickly after the single monthly doses. From month 4 onward, the infection did not return. I found Diflucan highly effective against a nearly intractable infection, with no side effects noticeable.

Allegra - Jessica - 07-02-2009

I took Allegra for a couple of years as I was able to obtain samples of it from my doctor (I'm on a low income).

I always had problems with a lot of the allergy medications making me feel jittery and wierd. This was especially true for Benadryl. I really like Allegra because I did not have any side effects at all and it worked very well for my allergies.

My allergies include hay fever and cat dander. Symptoms include itchy red eyes, sneezing, and some times a chronic cough. Allegra solved all those problems.

I would still be taking it, but I am unable to get the samples now and can't afford it.

Celebrex - Jessica - 07-02-2009

I was prescribed Celebrex for my severe anxiety and panic disorder. This was given to me as an alternative to Paxil because Celebrex is thought to have lesser side effects. I can agree that the side effects were milder then Paxil, but still so strong for me that I did not continue taking it.

As with the Paxil, I did not feel "normal". I fealt strange and not myself. Everything was in a fog and I couldn't think clearly. I experienced that same blurry vision from time to time and frequent yawning as I did with Paxil.

I will not take Celebrex again.

Flexeril - Jessica - 07-02-2009

I was prescribed Flexeril after a car accident 7 months ago. I had severe cervical strain and damage to my left shoulder. The stiffness in my neck was extremely uncomfortable and painful.

The Flexeril was great because it really loosened up my muscled that were strained from the accident. I do believe it helped in the healing process.

The only thing that I could have done without was how tired it made me. I couldn't drive and tried to limit it's use to just before bed time or if I was able to lay around the house all day.

Other then that, I didn't really notice any other side effects.

Paxil - Jessica - 07-02-2009

I was prescribed Paxil for my increading anxiety and panic disorder. Before taking it, I expressed my concerns to the doctor about the side effects. He made it very clear that I needed to wait them out and push through the side effects for at least a month before it might balance out and I would feel ok.

Upon taking Paxil, I noticed a huge increase in my anxiety. I fealt like I was "not myself" and I seemed to be in a daze most of the time. My vision would blur a lot and I would get teary eyes. I also found myself yawning all the time which was very annoying.

Overall, Paxil made me not want to leave my house. I fealt like I couldn't safely drive or comfortably interact with other people.

I stuck with it for two months until I just couldn't stand it anymore. Then I weaned myself off of it. I would rather live with my anxiety then live like that.

Ambien - SleepyGuy - 07-02-2009

I was on Ambien for a few weeks before deciding to discontinue use. At the time I was on two other drugs, Geodon and Paxil CR and was having trouble sleeping when I tried to cycle off the other 2 drugs.

Ambien does work in that it clearly knocks you out and helps you sleep. However, if you don't allot the full 8 hours I found sometimes that I woke up disoriented. Sometimes too when I was about to fall asleep I would get confused and disoriented.

For me, I'd stay away - if you can get the sleep without medication you are probably better off (at least in my opinion/circumstances).

Ambien - Russ - 07-02-2009

I started having trouble sleeping over 2 years ago. My doctor and I tried a several different sleep medication. A couple worked but had unpleasant side effects; groggy in the morning, sleep walking, difficulty with memory. Finally, we tried AmbienCR. What a difference. I take it about 45 minutes before I go to bed. I'm asleep within minutes and almost always sleep through the night. I wake up with no trouble and am sharp throughout the day.

This has been a Godsend! I can get my work done, enjoy my family and enjoy life!

Prozac - Nicole - 07-02-2009

I have been taking the drug daily for several years now. Before, I would not be happy, always angry. Not be able to get along with my husband, always fighting. I wasn't rational, either. Arguing over simple things, almost to the point it destroyed our marriage! Since I have been taking it, I am not angry, happier, and my husband & I never fight anymore. It has really helped me.

Nasonex - Cymivka - 07-02-2009

I've developed a sinus problem and it seems to be allergy related. I've gone to see my doctor twice about this. The first time, she gave me a nasal inhaler, but I can't remember the brand. Didn't really do anything. This second time, she's prescribed me Nazonex. Wow, what a difference! It's not runny, doesn't shoot to the back of my nose and then drip down my throat. Also, no side effects.

Levothroid - Cymivka - 07-02-2009

I was diagnoses with hypothyroidism about 15 years ago and have been prescribed medication ever since. I find that in my case, the medication doesn't really do anything for my weight. It actually helps me stay awake. By that I mean that along with weight gain and feeling cold, I was VERY listless allll the time. Now, while on this medication, I have more energy and don't need as much sleep as I once did. I don't find there are any side effects.

NuvaRing - Stella - 07-02-2009

This form of birth control was highly recommended to me by my OB/GYN. After being off of birth control for over 3 years I was looking for something low dose and easy to remember as I have two children under the age of two. The nuvaring satisfies both of those criteria. I only have to insert the ring once a month, wear it for 3 weeks, and then remove it for one week. I never feel the ring during my daily life so it does not interfere with my activities in any way.
The only downside of the nuvaring is that during my first month of usage I had light bleeding or spotting daily, especially after exercising. I was informed that it was due to my body adjusting to the hormones. I am happy to report that I am now in my second month of usage and have not experienced any breakthrough bleeding. Other than the bleeding the first month, I have not experienced any other side effects.
I do have an easy tip for insertion that my doctor passed along to me: use an empty tampon applicator to insert your nuvaring, it is super easy and worry-free.

Effexor - Wendy - 07-02-2009

I was prescribed this medicine for chronic depression while I was going through perimenopause. While the medicine helped, I could not tolerate the horrid withdrawl side effects I experienced if I missed even ONE day's dose. Missing one dose would land me in a whirl-wind of jitters, anxiety and mental confusion.

I spoke with my doctor about my reactions and he confirmed that this was not uncommon. We decided to change my medicine, but I had to first go through a lengthy tapering down period before I could stop this medication entirely.

I would stay aware from this medication.
