Concerta - Maggie - 07-05-2009

Maggie's mom is writing this review for Concerta:
Maggie is an outgoing, bright, smart, 8 year old. It was a big decision to start her on a medication for her ADHD. As a mom and a Registered Nurse I recognized from about the age of 3 years that Maggie was overly active and impulsive. We held off on meds until middle of first grade. When it was apparent that her impulsive behavior may impair her social and most importantly educational relationships would be damaged. We started on Concerta and saw an immediate improvement in her schoolwork, attention span, and impulsivity. Very few side effects were noticed, mostly appetite suppression, and very occasional mild headaches and headaches. I would recommend to other mothers to ask their doctor about Concerta for their child with ADHD.

Zithromax - Nancy - 07-05-2009

Although having to take an antibiotic for only 5 days is a big improvement over trying to keep track for twice that time, unfortunately I am not one of the people that can take Zithromax, although I've tried several times.

I've had both chronic and acute bacterial bronchitis, but each time I've taken a Z-pak it has torn my stomach UP. Even when taken on a full stomach or with milk, it really has upset my tummy to the point I have to discontinue its use. :(

Omnicef - Vince - 07-05-2009

I am currently on a 10-day cycle of Omnicef for a sinus infection. Overall, the antibiotic seems to be having a beneficial effect on clearing up the infection but there are some side effects that are a little difficult to deal with. I have basically had diarhea since I started the cycle and I assume this will end with the end of the cycle. It makes life a little tricky to say the least. Another issue was that Omnicef seemed a little pricey for the 20 pills I received. I am not usually an anti-biotic taker but as for having the desired effect of helping end this sinus infection, I would say Omnicef has done what was asked.

Valium - Lisa VanHagen - 07-05-2009

I went into the emergency room in the middle of the night for muscle spasms in my back. They were so bad I couldn't sleep. I had tried Advil, a massage cushion and a heating pad to no avail.

I was very surprised when the Doctor said that Valium was the best thing for muscle spasms. It worked wonderfully. I only took half a pill and was able to sleep. It took the spasms away. I kept the rest of the pills in case the spasms came back again. They have come back a few times, but I would just take half a pill and they would be gone again.

Nasonex - Lisa VanHagen - 07-05-2009

I had been suffering with repeated sinus infections for many years. They would always have to put me on antibiotics to vlear them up, but they would just come right back again.

Finally a new Doctor I went to prescribed Nasonex, and I haven't had a sinus infection since. It has also gotten rid of my severe nasal allergies, which was the basis of all my sinus infections.

Cymbalta - DABFL - 07-05-2009

When I began treatment with Cymbalta, I felt happy and clear for the first time in years. That changed quickly however as the side effects began to increase. I had a strange ringing in my ears that would not go away, and a strange sensation of buzzing and spinning in my head around the time I was supposed to take my next dose. Unfortunately these symptoms did not go away as my doctor said they would. They increased as a matter of fact, and my friends began to complain that I was slowly becoming a zombie. I didn't care about anything and slept for most of the day. I only stayed awake long enough to attend work. All of my household chores fell by the wayside and I stopped participating in life. I decided to stop taking Cymbalta, and my doctor prescribed a plan to ween me off the drug. I had to take another anti-depressant to lessen the withdrawal effects. I would not recommend this medication to anyone. Please consider other alternatives before subjecting yourself to this medication.

Zyrtec-D - Amanda - 07-05-2009

I have used a few other prescriptions over the past couple of years but they only worked mildly. I first started getting allergies about 3 years ago and didn't know what I was allergic to. I noticed that it was all year round. After trying a few I got Zyrtec. There was a huge difference. I couldn't even tell I had any allergies. They help me greatly with my symptoms and would recommend it to others to try.

Xanax - Lisa - 07-05-2009

I have anxiety and get stressed out easily. This medication is vital to my everyday living. If I miss a dose I definitely realize it soon after because my anxiety symptoms are out of control.
I really don't experience any terrible side effects besides feeling a little drowsy. Once you find the correct dosage this can be manageable. This medication has given me my life back and without it I would probably be in an institution. I guess another side effect would be dependency but the benefits are worth it to me.

Prozac - Expresso2222 - 07-05-2009

I was given this for depression after being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. You have to take it regularly, it takes a couple of weeks to "kick in" and you have to stay away from alcohol, but the general effect is marvelous. I had little worry and depression, no matter what happened in my life. Other anti-depressants I had taken previously are much less effective. I tell people that I have "emigrated to Prozac paradise"

Desyrel - Kydee - 07-05-2009

I have been taking Trazadone for about a year now. My doctor prescribed it to me for insomnia. Overall the medication is working, but there are days I take the high end of the prescribed dose and I still can not get to sleep or stay asleep. I will continue to take the medication since for the most part it does help. The only side effect I really have to complain about is the weight gain and the carbohydrate craving if I take the high in of the dose for too long.

Zyrtec - JbrookD - 07-05-2009

My three year old daughter has severe allergies resulting in nasal congestion and sneezing and occasional sinus infections. Many of the allergy products I had tried before either made her sleepy or made her hyperactive. This product makes a huge difference in her symptoms without these effects.

Wellbutrin - firebird - 07-05-2009

Before taking Wellbutrin (generic), I had taken Paxil and Zoloft for a couple of years. I had experienced weight gain and sexual dysfunction on both of those meds. I did some research and learned that Wellbutrin was touted as not having those particular side effects. Consequently I switched to Wellbutrin and have been a loyal user for these past 9 years. My significant other calls them my "emotional vitamins" and would probably prefer that I never stop taking them. I had suffered from tremendous mood swings and anxiety and sincerely believe that the Wellbutrin has made a significant difference in my life - for the better!

Elidel - Rick - 07-05-2009

I’ve been using this to treat my condition and I have had good results using this. My eczema has cleared up and remains so having continued using Elidel. It is pretty simple to use as it only needs to be applied twice daily and I like it since it isn’t a typical steroid which means that it is safe to use on my face and eyelids. The only complaint I would have about it is that my skin becomes very sensitive to heat when using it. If I step out into a hot wind during the summer or wash my face with hot water, I get a prickling sensation that is quite uncomfortable. There is some relief when I rub the skin or shield it, and if I were to stop using Elidel, the symptom will go away.

Lipitor - gamegirl61849 - 07-05-2009

I have high cholesterol. I have been unsuccessful in lowering my cholesterol on my own so my doctor had me try Lipitor. Now I should say I know many people who take this drug and do fine, but I had a reaction.

I started having muscle aches and pains and thought maybe I was getting the flu. Then I read about the possible side-effects of Lipitor and found out that muscle ache can be an adverse reaction. I was concerned that maybe I was being a little bit of a hypochondriac and waited awhile to see if the symptoms would go away. They didn't and I got on the internet and found out there can be serious damage done to liver and muscle tissue if you are sensitive to this medication.

I called my doctor and was taken off the medication immediately. I had liver and muscle tests done and my liver readings were headed twoward the bad side. Since I have been off for over six months, my liver functions are back in the nromal range.

Its a good drug for those who can take it. Just watch yourself or a loved one for symptoms of side effects. I am unable to take any Stain based medication.

Prozac - Gabriel - 07-05-2009

Depression is hereditary in my family. I was experiencing the symptoms off and on for a year, but I finally reached a breaking point (crying every day, etc.) I began taking prozac and my life has changed - it's what I now remember the good life being. Prozac has been wonderful for both myself and family members.

I haven't experienced any bad side effects, though I know some people can have problematic experiences. I totally support trying it, though, with a doctor's supervision. Fear of side effects shouldn't have to paralyze you into never treating your depression.

Protopic - re506 - 07-05-2009

My dermatologist prescribed Protopic for my mild psoriasis. I've used it intermittently (that is, once every few weeks) for a couple of years now. It's quite good at clearing up my small areas of plaque psoriasis, which generally manifest themselves on my nose, behind my ears and on my temples, with the occasional errant guttate psoriasis spot popping up on my chest or back.

It does generally take at least a day or two to work, and upon immediate application it can make the affected areas look worse--kind of a rebound effect, but that goes away after a few hours.

I subtracted one star, however, because it's so greasy--it's a petroleum-based ointment, and if you apply it too heavily it can make you appear shiny or oily. Other than that, it's been a godsend, and I've been very pleased with its effectiveness.

Zoloft - LBee - 07-05-2009

Zoloft successfully resolved my anxiety and depression when I developed it in college. I have taken it the past 10 years with positive and consistent results. It has the least amount of transfer during pregnancy and breastfeeding which was a great relief when I decided to start a family. I have not experienced any side effects.

Lexapro - Carly - 07-05-2009

I have been taking Lexapro since I was 18 years old. Depression runs in my family and when I started to become noticeably depressed at 18 I went to see my family doctor. I was then first prescribed Lexapro. After a few weeks myself and others surrounding me noticed positive changes. My mood was much more elevated and I felt much better overall.

I have also noticed that I have not had any of the side effects that friends and family members of mine have that are taking other anti-depressants, and after doing some research online it appears that Lexapro has minimum side effects in comparison to other anti-depressants.

Seroquel - William Benjamin - 07-05-2009

I was originally diagnosed in 2005 with Bipolar Disorder and Schizophrenia. My initial treatment was with Depakote and Seroquel. Seroquel definitely changed my life. It eliminated both audible hallucinations and voices that I heard in my mind. It also corrected psychotic thinking.

I still depend on Seroquel to keep my Schizophrenia in check. It also helps me to stay out of mania and get decent sleep every night. When I'm manic or don't sleep well, I can have recurrence of symptoms. Fortunately, this hasn't happened in sometime.

The only side effect I've noticed is occasional dry mouth. My doctor also thinks it may play a role in my being overweight. I don't care. The benefits far outweigh the side effects.

Wellbutrin - tymefornew - 07-05-2009

It is difficult finding an antidepressant that works and doesn't have major side effects. Wellbutrin has significantly lessened my depression and I am alert, calm and able to think clearly. While other medications helped with the depression, the side effects were difficult to live with. I've noticed no negative side effects with Wellbutrin but one nice impact is that I smoke much, much less. I actually think I'll be smoke free soon. I never thought that would be possible! Such a boost!

Bactrim - Martin - 07-05-2009

Be aware that Bactrim is a sulfa drug. Many people have allergic reactions to drugs in this class.

My doctor prescribed a short course of Bactrim treat a bladder infection. Shortly after starting to use this medication, I noticed small pink blotches on my hands. I looked closer and noticed that I had blotches all over my arms and the rest of my body. They did not itch or hurt.

I called my doctor and asked him about this. He told me that it was probably an allergic reaction to the Bactrim. He advised me to stop taking Bactrim immediately and to not take Sulfa drugs in the future.

Advair Diskus - Johnny - 07-05-2009

I am a life long asthma sufferer. I had exercise induced asthma and was dependent on rescue type inhalers which always made me feel like I needed a crutch just to get through the day. My frequent attacks were very depressing.
My doctor switched me to twice a day Advair and from the first use, I felt my lungs, and my world open up. I am down 10 pounds from my heaviest, I ride bicycle marathons with no issue, and I have recently been able to cut my Advair use in half, with no need for my rescue inhaler. The only side affect was my increased stamina. This is the closest thing to a cure for asthma that I could imagine.
