Advair Diskus - Katherine - 07-06-2009

Advair diskus did not work for me, despite high hopes for its success. I know other people who love it and obtained excellent results but I found that my asthma symptoms almost worsened when I was using the product. I tried it on two or three separate occasions and each time had to stop using it to go back to another more helpful product.

Flovent HFA - Katherine - 07-06-2009

FloVent HFA is the most reliable inhaled steroid I've used for my mild asthma symptoms. I've tried other medications and they have not worked as well for me. FloVent has not given me any noticeable side effects.

Adderall - Winfield - 07-06-2009

I was skeptical going in that Adderall was going to change my life entirely; I was scattered and needed to focus, so my doc prescribed this. After taking it, I was surprised at how... still myself I was, in spite of having more energy and will to complete the things I had to complete in time.

Occasionally while on Adderall I experience dry mouth. There was one time I took it and then gave a 20-minute presentation where I talked the whole time. I have never had a drier mouth! But over all, as long as you don't take this right before you go to bed, there won't be any crazy side effects. If there are, it still would probably be worth it!

Yaz - Jacqueline - 07-06-2009

I used Yaz to prevent pregnancy. It was one of many pill forms of contraception that I used and I felt it worked adequately. I did not have any serious side effects but I did experience a lack of sex drive with Yaz and other pills.

Seroquel - AnitaJay - 07-06-2009

My husband suffered from undiagnosed bipolar disorder for years. It wasn't until his daughter was hospitalized with symptoms familiar to him, that he finally was diagnosed. I did not know about the auditory hallucinations, the voices and the racing thoughts he suffered from for all those years. I know his whole life changed when he started taking the Seroquel. He has tried on occasion to reduce the amount he takes, and sometimes that will go on for a few weeks; but I know he will never totally stop taking this medication. I am so sorry he suffered for so long before finding out he could live without the suicidal thoughts that he had to deal with all those years.

Zyrtec - Edward - 07-06-2009

My allegy symptoms include watery eyes, sneezing, and occassional difficulty catching my breath. Zyrtec was the third anti-histamine allergy medication that I tried. The other two left me with too many side effects and only coverage during certain seasons. Zyrtec has proven to alleviate my symptoms in spring - autumn and to do so in a way that seems to be completely side-effect-free. The relief has been complete. The only down-side that I am aware of thusfar seems to be that Zyrtec relief is not immediate. I seem to need to take it for two to three days before my symptoms completely disappear but that is a small price to pay for allergy relief.

Synthroid - Synthroid User - 07-06-2009

I have taken Synthroid for about 3/4 of my life (since I was 11 years old) for hereditary hypothyroidism. I have tried the generic form in the past & have found this product to be far superior. I take it first thing in the morning before breakfast & it works wonderfully. If you are a new user, it's important to have your thyroid level tested regularly, as there are a lot of things that can affect your dosage amount (ie: pregnancy/stress/illnesses, etc). I highly recommend this medication.

Chantix - Chris - 07-06-2009

I had tried quitting smoking for ten years, using every approach imaginable. I did everything from cold turkey to the gum to the patch, even older antidepressants that supposedly helped people quit smoking.

Chantix was the miracle pill I was waiting for. I forgot to put on a patch one morning, and suffered no nicotine withdrawal...NONE!! That's when I knew this wonder drug really was blocking the receptors in the brain.

I never worry about relapsing, because I know Chantix has my back!

Wellbutrin - Katherine - 07-05-2009

I had taken a few different anti-depressants, effectiveness ranging from "no effect" to "sort of works for a couple weeks". Wellbutrin seemed to intesify my depression. I had a serious negative change in mood. I would stay up crying for hours at night. I was not on this drug for very long, and once I stopped my mood increased dramatically.

I had started at a somewhat lower dose, and after a couple weeks gradually increased to taking it 2x/day. It never had a very noticeable positive affect for me, and I didn't experience any withdrawal symptoms once I stopped taking it.

Bactrim - SuzyQ - 07-05-2009

I've had about three or four urinary tract infections over the past 20 years and each time I was prescribed this drug. The first few times I had UTI's, I avoided going to the doctor and hoped it would clear up by itself (at the time, I didn't know it was an infection: I was just young and stupid.) But when I finally went to the doctor and they prescribed this pill, it worked almost immediately in alleviating the uncomfortable symptoms of the UTI. I had no side effects except R-E-L-I-E-F. It is a simple pill that gets rid of the UTI symptoms almost immediately and you begin to feel human again.

Effexor - Katherine - 07-05-2009

The medication worked so-so while initially taking it, though the positive affects slowly waned and my doctor kept increasing the dosage until I was on 75mg three times per day. Still, positive affects started going away, and since I had no insurance, I opted to pare down my dosage and wean off of the medication.

Unfortunately, Effexor had awful withdrawals, I could barely function normally at work, and the symptoms lasted for months. I had constant dizziness and stomach upset, and at the worst of it, experienced extreme confusion and wasn't even able to drive.

I am probably never going to take another anti-depressant again after this experience, even though I had been diagnosed with major depressive disorder. The after-effects of Effexor were just an awful thing to go through.

Elavil - rectangular - 07-05-2009

This stuff is absolutely amazing as a migraine preventative. I still get the occasional headache, but haven't had any in the past six months that impaired functioning at all. I used to get hemiplegic migraines about 2-3 times per month, and I was instructed to go to the ER each time and get IV drugs immediately. Also used to get classic migraines about half of the days out of the month where I was nauseated, dizzy, couldn't think right. This stuff is completely awesome.

Benemid - goutster - 07-05-2009

I've used Benemid (probenecid) to treat my gout symptoms for months now. It seemed to prevent any new gout attacks for the longest time, but I just had one recently (with no breaks in taking the med).

It is extremely easy for me to tolerate. It doesn't have a bad taste (although it's a largish pill) and I haven't noticed any side effects at all (unless you count being gout-free).

Micardis-HCT 80/12.5 - Henry Nelson - 07-05-2009

I have been treated with various medications for high blood pressure for 12 years. For the last five years, my doctor switched me to Micardis. I have had no ill side effects, unlike some of the other medications. Though my doctor is satisfied with the effectiveness of this one, I feel the readings (definitely lower than if I were taking nothing) should be lower. Also, the cost is expensive.

Viagra - Burningman - 07-05-2009

I first took Viagra when I was 40. I had a young girlfriend and my natural "stamina" wasn't satisfactory for her. Viagra saved our sex life but it didn't save the relationship. (Thanksfully!).

Still, I continue to use it to this day. To be very honest, it makes me more erect than I ever was, even in my prime.
It makes sex fun again. I don't have to worry at all about losing my erection because of some errant thought or worry. It's like cruise control for your penis.

Thank you, Viagra. You changed my life!

Oh, there were some mild side effects such as, a flushed feeling, (which I actually came to enjoy) and sometimes I had difficulty climaxing. It takes forever. That can be good or bad depending on how you choose to look at it.

Lipitor - sms - 07-05-2009

I was put on lipitor a few years ago because my cholesterol was moderately high. I was taking it for about 2 months and during that time I noticed that I was experiencing muscle weakness and muscle twitches in various parts of my body. The twitches happened several times a day. This was very odd as I was very active and healthy and never experienced muscle weakness before. Within a few days of stopping the lipitor, the weakness and twitches slowly subsided and I never had this problem again. I also later was able to normalize my cholesterol through diet and nutrition.

Zoloft - mizchulita - 07-05-2009

I was put on Zoloft for anxiety attacks. However, the Zoloft did not do much for them. At best, it helped me to distance myself somewhat from my anxiety. However, after four years of use, the anxiety was not any better.

I wish someone had told me how absolutely difficult Zoloft is to quit. I tapered off very slowly, and had a host of side effects. I struggled with depression quite a bit for a couple of months after stopping the drug, which was weird, as I'd never been depressed before. I wouldn't take this drug again as the withdrawal effects just aren't worth it.

Effexor - Cheryl - 07-05-2009

I cannot say enough good things about Effexor and how it's changed my life for the better. I was diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder when I was 23 and started on Effexor a few months later. What. A. Change. Before I felt like I had heavy chains attached to my ankles and I was having to fight to keep from being dragged down. Now, I feel like I'm swimming free in the sunshine. When I first started I experienced tiredness and some nausea, leading friends to tease me about being pregnant. There are times when I've forgotten one day to take my Effexor and I really feel it the next day in being Really Tired and have a head full of cotton wool, not to mention Bizzare dreams that night. Other than that, no side effects. I also take Wellbutrin to help w/ focus and concentration b/c I have ADHD and haven't suffered any side effects from the combination.

Zyrtec - Pam Lawson - 07-05-2009

I have to say Zyrtec has changed my life. I was constantly having allergy issues. I tried another well-known brand but the results were horrible. The other brand did not relieve my watery eyes, sneezing, and runny nose. I then switched to Zyrtec and within 3 days all of my symptoms were gone. I did not experience any side effects. I would suggest you to drinks extra fluids while taking it. I felt like a new person.

My allergies can be triggered by strong smells, animals, smoke, pollens and grasses. I now know that I have something that I can turn to very quickly and get true results. I will always speak highly of the medicine to family and friends.

Pristiq - readingfool - 07-05-2009

Because I am a cancer pt the doctor changed me from effexor xr to pristiq because it will not cause as much work for my internal organs. He felt that the less my kidney/liver has to detox the better. The drug is being used for multiple reasons - depression, migraine prevention and to combat the hot flashes/night sweats from my cancer treatment. Over all I have been happy with the treatment and it has been very effective in treating the menopause symptoms. I have gone from waking up 6-8 times per night with night sweats to only waking up 1-2 times. For me this has changed my life because I can sleep again. I have had no side effects but do realize that I will need to be weaned off of the drug if and when my doctor chooses to take me off of it.

Adderall - isolde - 07-05-2009

as a parent,it tore at my heart for my son at age 7 to have to start this medication. the elementary school my son attended was quite responsible; ensuring he received his dosage daily. on the weekend, he did not have to take the meds. after a while, my son came to me and said he did not want to continue taking the meds. I saw a remark difference in his ability to learn and so did his teachers. i was concern, but as my son spoke calmly his reasons for not want to continuing on the meds, i felt like wow, this is going to be okay. we set up alternative behavior strategies and he and i discussed it and agree together we would be committed to these strategies. if I see that he has returned to his inability to learn due to a lack of focus, he would have to return on the meds.

So in short, this med is quite effective and really could mean the difference between your child graduating from school or becoming a repeat offender, which has its own set of issues.

Aciphex - Marilyn - 07-05-2009

I tried an over the counter medication, but it had to be taken twice daily and it made me restless at night. I had previously tried a prescription medication that is now over the counter taken once daily and had more stomach pain than from the acid reflux. I was eventually prescribed Aciphex. It works great. It completely controls my acid reflux when taken daily. My insurance company has tried to put me on other medications due to the cost of Aciphex but they fail to control my acid reflux. I keep coming back to Aciphex. It is the only acid reflux medication that works for me.
