As a patient with Ulcerative Colitis, I popped Lomotil like candy. When I was at my worst, I'd take 14 of them a day, because they were the only way I could somewhat control my symptoms. I also had no side effects from the large doses of the medicine. I eventually underwent a 3-stage J-Pouch surgery, and I will have to rely on lomotil for the rest of my life.
However, since I've had my 3 surgeries, I seem to be plagued by some side effects. If I take too much lomotil (which is considerably less than I used to take), I get very bloated, nauseous, & can't really eat large quantities of food.
